5 melting stars - captivating from start to finish
Joellen is trapped in a monotonous routine, having worked for the same publisher for over a decade. Secretly, her heart yearns for Michael, the company's CEO and the man of her dreams, even though he is married. However, when Michael announces his impending divorce and starts showing interest in Joellen, her inner insecurities take over. She questions why a man as handsome as Michael would desire a woman like her. After all, she has only her lonely life and her deaf cat as companions. But her life takes an unexpected turn when her neighbor, Killen, arranges an apartment swap with his cousin. Famous rugby player Cameron McGregor is a gruff mountain man with a Scottish accent who often wears a kilt. Joellen's first impression of Cameron is anything but positive when she asks him to turn down his murderous music, but he surprises her with a proposal that leads to the two of them having dinner together almost every night. Their banter is full of wit and humor and gradually develops into a genuine friendship. When Joellen confides in Cameron about her secret love and her desire to get in shape for the Christmas party, he offers to help. As Joellen notices positive changes in herself, she begins to blossom, leading to a tug-of-war between Cameron and Michael for her attention. Cameron's wisdom and depth go beyond his looks, proving that there is more to him than his attractive exterior. Joellen carries her own pain from the past, and Cameron becomes the guiding force to help her overcome it. However, when Joellen's illusions are shattered and she realizes her mistake, it may be too late to save what she truly desires. Personally, I found this story very compelling. The clever banter, peppered with sarcasm to hide the underlying truths and pain, was skilfully written. It is a heartwarming story that many can identify with, with well-developed characters and compelling secondary characters that drive the narrative. I highly recommend this story

Sexy, Funny and Genuine
I love the character Joellen, she is vulnerable and real. Her outlook on men and life keeps her trapped in a frustrated, vicious cycle. Then Cam arrives. The relationship between Cam and Joellen is sweet, witty and smoking hot, I laughed out loud alot at their exchanges. What I enjoyed about this story is that it is based on an honest, real friendship that ignites into more. A great entertaining read.

Great story, funny banter
Generally loved the slow burn one sided romance. All the one liners from Joellen is fantastic and I’m so glad that Cam was a well rounded character and not just a surface bore.

A wonderful and easy read
Really lovely book, great pacing and hilarious banter. From the first few chapters it was obvious the author knows how to write, and well. The cover looks amateur, but looks are deceiving. This is a well written book that is fresh and easy to read.I will admit, there were moments I was confused on where exactly the MC lived. Initially I believed it was in America (it is, NYC), but kept getting confused because the writing would at times use phrases or sentence structure that didn’t sound American, or the MC (who is not British) would make British analogies. I became convinced the author was British or perhaps even Scottish, trying to write as an American MC (I don’t know if that’s the case and I’m not looking it up, bc quite frankly I don’t care enough to know).Overall the writing was really good and I loved the characters, they were very relatable. I loved that the author did not give a description of the main character. You knew the MC was bigger and struggled with her appearance but you weren’t bashed over the head with it. I liked the MMC’s backstory but it was really only a blip, and didn’t factor into the plot other than to flesh out his character. The MMC didn’t have much of an arc, he was basically there to help the MC with her journey, which I’m totally ok with. There was no switching POVs back and forth too, which I prefer.

Best of the three male main characters in this series
Cameron was good looking, kind, and helpful to the heroine. He gets short tempered when she’s down on herself, but is otherwise quite lighthearted.

I lovedddddd Cameron so much. He’s everything you’d want in a love interest. And I love how he is with Joellen. I love how her confidence came through. What a fun read!

I’m truly, madly, deeply in love with this book!
I’m truly, madly, deeply in love with this book!I really, really enjoyed this book! JT Geissinger is a gifted writer, to be sure. Her dialogue is always sublime and her characters (especially female) alive and filled with fire.In this, the second book in the Slow Burn series, we meet Joellen Bixby, an awkward and bland ice cream eating couch potato who has been in love with her boss for ten years, and Cameron MacGregor, a god of a rugby player from Scotland who is instantly enamoured of her when he temporarily moves across the hall from her. It’s a delicious ugly duckling story, that asks you to suspend your adult need for believable. It doesn’t matter if it could happen or not, the book is so much fun to read as Joellen finds her inner beeotch and Cameron finds his salvation in helping her selflessly. The fun is in the way Joellen dances around her attraction to Cameron and how she just can’t give up the fantasy of her boss, who she is within inches of getting, until she realizes her true love.Such a lovely story of the ugly duck turning into the beautiful swan and her man allowing for her to decide on her own. This is why I read romance. For the swoon. And Geissinger has no equal in her character development, or dialogue. Can’t wait to read Ache For You next!

Absolutely amazing novel
Ugh, I never wanted this story to end. I am hopelessly in love with Cameron Mc Gregor, I mean how could any not be, he has become one of my favourite hero ❤ . I loved how this story began and ended, the slow burn in the start that made it all worth it. I liked joellen but towards the end I just wanted to hit her on the head, because she was denying herself happiness with Cam. I felt so sorry for Cam, he had to wait but still purseud joellen till she realises. Cam is so sexy and kind and beautiful, that I wanted him for myself. The way he loved joellen was fairytale like. I wanted the author to show us more of their happy ever after, I wanted to read Cam being a dad. I feel robbed of more happiness reading about their happy life dammit. The characters had soul and depth, Cam wasn't just some gorgeous hunk who growled and didn't know how to express himself. He was vulnerable too and wasn't pushy but patient. And although I liked joellen's vulnerability, I wish she had gotten brave sooner and expressed herself to Cam. And omg the banter the smart, witty back and forth arguments were amazing and exactly what made this novel so much better. This story really surprised me, so many other promising books that I started felt flat and one dimensional because, they jumped into sex too soon or the main characters were shallow and lacked human vulnerability. That's what makes a great novel, not beautiful woman and men who have no depth or difficulty in life who get together.
