Space Cat

A nostalgic romp! If you like cats and space, get this.
I have always loved cats, and pretty much anything to do with space. Now, I do have to concede that this book was written somewhere in the 1950s, so some of the scientific aspects haven't aged that terribly well. Still, I always given one credit where due in trying to predict things that aren't known, and the story of the cat Flyball has a charm all it's own, so I am perfectly willing to suspend disbelief. The illustrations also turn up the charm, and pull you into the story. I also got my niece this series as a christmas present. To be sure, this has a specialized niche. Even so, the charm is there, and if you have kids that like to read, you can't go wrong with it.

Still love Space Cat!!!
The reissue of the Space Cat books has allowed me to introduce a third generation of my family to these books I so loved as a child. Space Cat Visits Venus is my favorite of the series of four books that follow the adventures of Flyball AKA Space Cat. I checked out the Space Cat books from the Bookmobile that visited my elementary school. My sons read the books from their school library. Now that I have grandsons, I wanted to share Space Cat with them as well. Not finding the books in the library, I looked for them online and was delighted to see new editions available for purchase. Of course I immediately ordered all four. I reread them too when they arrived, and they are still great. Some of the "science" is of course way out of date, but it's fiction after all. My 8 year old grandson has now finished the fourth book. He enjoyed reading about Space Cat's adventures. We will hang onto the books for the youngest grandchild since at five months old he is not yet ready for reading on his own. We all highly recommend the whole series, and Venus is still the best.

Inspiration from a museum
I saw the hardcover copy of this book at the space and rocket museum located at the Marshall space Center in Huntsville Alabama the display was celebrating 50 years from Armstrong's walk on the moon . I saw the book and said no way ?! Out of curiosity I found this book on the Kindle website and yes it turns out that this book was either the second or third book I ever read from the library in grade school it brought back so many memories . I intend to get the whole series because now I have nieces and nephews in the grade school age. Who would enjoy this thank you for bringing back a very precious memory . Bill Hodges

Excellent kid's SF novel
This was one of my favorite SF books when I was a child. I bought this copy as I wanted to re read it and add the book to my own library. While the technology aspects of the story are dated, the story itself still holds up very well. I also bought the last book in the four book series at the same time and hope to pick up the middle two books in a while.

This was a very adorable book I learned about on my favorite tee shirt ...
This was a very adorable book I learned about on my favorite tee shirt website. Written in 1952 it is about a little cat who finds himself at an experimental space station after stowing away on a plane. Captain Fred Stone finds him and named him Flyball. Together they go to the moon and discover a whole new world.I particularly love that this book was written prior to man landing on the moon. Therefore the author can imagine just about anything. I recommend this book for children who are just beginning to read chapter books and for parents and teachers who want a fun read aloud.

Goofy, cheerful '50s science fiction for kids
Sort of a mashup between Robert Heinlein and Garfield, but without the obnoxious qualities of either. These were dated and past being improbable when I read them as a kid, and now my kid, as ignorant of the cruel realities of the Venusian atmosphere as I was then, is enjoying them now. The writing style is clear and assured but still completely intelligible to a five-year-old, so you can read them aloud without losing the will to live. I'm grateful to Dover for recognizing the winning qualities of this series and bringing them back.

The first adventure of Space Cat
I first read this book many years ago as a 10 year old , it was my first taste of science fiction and I loved it!Flyball is a cat with opinions and a pilot friend. They go to the moon. You'll have to read their adventure, it is to good to miss.

wonderful book
I read this book in the first grade. I found it at my public library and read it again last year. And then I understood why the book left such a great impression on me back then: It's well written, has great illustrations, and it's cleverly narrated from the cat's point of view.

Space Cat by Ruthven Todd
Charming little child's space story but adults will enjoy the illustrations by Paul Galdoni. Reccomended.
