Classic, but still relevant
It seems a shame that W Edwards Deming had more impact in Japan than in his home country (USA). Certainly the west could still benefit from his thinking. Unfortunately people latch on to some of the tools (e.g. control charts) and misapply them. Deming's system of profound knowledge - explained carefully in this book - should be at the centre of any attempt to improve. If you focus on just one of the elements - or even on all of them, but as separate entities - you miss the whole point. Deming is at pains to explain that the "system" is what counts and gives many examples of what happens when you misunderstand this or misapply system concepts. If you haven't come across his work before, this is an inspiring read. If you have heard of him but haven't been to the source, then this is a good place to start. A must read for any serious business manager.

Very good, but has now been overtaken and outclassed
A very good book. It gives overview tips on a new style of management that include: "a system must have a goal".I would have given it 5 stars if I hadn't recently read The Goal by Eliyahu Goldratt .It outclasses this book by a mile. It graphically shows you HOW to do what Deming suggests in terms of running your business as a system. But this book is valuable in giving you tips on how things should look.

High level but good
The content is good for a beginner, unfortunately not specific enough at lots of topics. I recommend only if this is your first book from Deming.

Great Book. Useless Kindle1
I know this book well, and love it. The 2 stars is for the Kindle Format.Having ordered it I could not register the Kindle Reader. Only on asking customer sevice was I given a one off code which work for 10 minutes!I can still not see the book. The kindle web reader is a joke!Get the book, but not on Kindle.Given the book is about doing things properly someone at Amazon should read it and learn from it. An unnecessarity complicated process to get to read it. Come on Amazon get into the modern world!

A management perspective that opens new horizons
This is a great book and the last book that Deming wrote prior to his demise. It turns current management thinking on its head and does away with meritocracy. It even questions how we currently teach our children at school. It's hard to turn around and question Deming's thoughts. Read the book and open your horizons of thinking!
