Rotring800 Retractable Ballpoint Pen, Medium Point, Silver

I love everything about it: style, balance, performance. At this price, it had a lot to live up to, especially after the dismal RapidPro. This pen is a return to the great Rotring pens I remember. My new favorite pen, favorite EDC, everything.

Expensive but nice pen.

So far so good. All joints are metal with machined threads for connection. The twist and click is very much the old style Rotring mechanical for exposing the ballpoint. If used properly it should last. The tip sleeve retracts with the tip of the ball point. I will update this review later if any problems occur.

The 800 is as solid and well made as you've probably heard. The mechanism is smooth and feels precise. The barrel feels good in the hand. My only complaint is the ink cartridge that came in it stopped writing after 2 days and I had to order refills.

I've used Rotrings in the past and wanted to upgrade because Rotring had actually stopped making refills for my older version. This one doesn't disappoint as this still has the good weight balance ratio to allow for easy writing without tipping over or feeling too heavy on the paper.

I’ve had both a 600 and an 800, stylistically the 800 is superior with the retractable tip also it doesn’t rattle like the 600. However the 800 retracting mechanism has broken after only a month of use, unacceptable for a pen that cost so much. This pen has unfortunately taken me down a premium pen rabbit hole and there are better options than this.

I like this pen because you can’t accidentally extend the tip of the pen. The point is also recessed inside the pen, and the opening that surrounds it is smooth and won’t catch on your pocket.

This is a great feeling pen. I see people complain that it is a twist to open top vs a click. Does take time to get used to but works just fine.
