Camera Obscura [Blu-Ray]

It was a really great idea! Very imaginative and I loved the main actor. Too much gore for me though, and the ending just leaves you saying..."Huh?"

There's some really great actors in this that you'll recognize and they put on excellent performances as expected.Don't worry, it's definitely worth the rental. It's just that it gives off the wrong vibe in the first half as to where it actually ends up.It doesn't ruin the experience but if they'd kept going in that direction, I'd give it the final star.Definitely a pleasant surprise to find this available tonight. If it runs under the radar, it's hidden gem quality, so go ahead and enjoy it.

Little to no stylistic integrity make this one fall flat. The script was decent enough but it's the subtleties that were lacking big time in this one. The main actor and his wife were decent but not intense or gripping enough to carry the plot. It's as if it was just good enough to keep watching but you never feel quite absorbed or satisfied (like a low carb meal). Weird to say but the wardrobe was off and the main actors were surrounded by some annoying background performances. Too may muggers in hoodies, quiet romantic moments and cops try to play it cool feels cheap. Detective Dawson and her big ass hair and bullish mug is really a micro metaphor for the entire movie and why it doesn't work. Also, a dude built like the main character better move like a squirrel on steroids and meth if he's taking people out not so casual without breaking a sweat. Listen...take this whole movie and instead set the actors as struggling poverty ridden meth addicts with schizophrenic tendencies, take some tighter shots with blue filters and take up the intensity with better acting and more risk taking, add in some juxtaposed or interesting wardrobe/set design and improve that 'Stranger Things' type score that was consequently only added in at the very end of the film (don't think that went unnoticed) and this one might pull through. I'm sure this will get decent reviews from casual horror fans but it certainly does nothing new for the genre.

I waffled between 4 and 5 stars, but I finally decided on 5 because the only reason I'd give it 4 is that I'm not a huge horror fan in general and certain scenes made me so uncomfortable that I literally tasted blood in my mouth. But I bet that's a sign that true horror fans would love it! I knew nothing about the movie when my husband and I rented it; both of us are normally comedy fans (something light that we don't have to think about while we veg out after a long week). But. This movie sucked us in. From the first scene I wasn't sure if I could stomach it -- and true to form, a few scenes made me really queasy -- but it's a movie that we're STILL talking about a month later! I think the ending was just vague enough that I could think of about three plausible reasons for it happening or reasons why the main character did what he did, which I love. I love that they didn't tie it up in a neat little bow. It left room for a prequel OR a sequel, and it gives fans some control to debate over what actually happened. My one complaint was a bit of flat acting from the wife and I really thought the police detective woman was horrible all around (needed a better actor and better lines, and the "retarded" part still makes me cringe, it was really awful). But that's background noise compared to the overall genius of the plot and execution (no pun intended) of this film.

The story was definitely lacking but the concept was a good idea. Unfortunately, a good idea doesn't carry a movie the acting was so-so but the characters were flat. I didn't care enough about any of them so I didn't pay much attention. I did keep watching to see what would happen but it ended very predictably.It could have been a better movie if the characters and dialogue were better.

Great concept. Bad plot development and only OK acting. I was expecting something spectacular based on the ratings, but this was a waste of money and time!

No one ever reads a long review.. so lets keep it short and simple. WATCH THIS MOVIE NOW IF YOU LIKE CREEPY! I know there has been major hype for this movie from the horror movie community, but you don't have to be into the horror genre to dig this flick. Koontz and Burns wrote a script that not only gets the horror genre junkies more than enough for their fix, but can still captivate the casual movie watcher as well. Absolute psychological thrill ride! I won't post any spoilers, but don't hesitate to give it a watch. Great acting, writing, and directing..it's a triple threat! Hope you enjoy it as much as I did! My only complaint is that I would have bought it the first time instead of renting it and then buying it. (Defenite replay value. I find something new every time) ENJOY!
