Fast, character driven immersive read.
This was a solid character driven book for me. The story finished rather quickly but because I cared so much about the characters through the story I’m giving it 5 stars.

not that great - hidden agenda
full disclosure - i did read this book cover to cover though I did not purchase it.The plot is ok, the writing isn't great. The dialogue and relationships did not fit the setting. The characters were much to free and 21st century for 1918.This is directed at middlers, but it had characters who were roaming about outside of parental/guardian authority. No one questioned late night clandestine outings with boyfriends, nor giving full reign to a loner girl "checking on" houses for the deathly ill throughout any and all neighborhoods. The main character is 17, doing adultish things. I, personally am not ok with my middler daughters emulating that. I did not appreciate the not-so-subtle editorial on family size. Large families were gasped at, and the Margaret Sanger pamphlet introduced blatantly said having two children was perfect. Margaret Sanger was introduced as the savior of the "modern" woman who educated women about available birth control, but nothing was mentioned about her position on eugenics and abortion.
