Ann Cleeves TV Vera Stanhope Series Collection 7 Books Set (Telling Tales, Harbour Street, Silent Voices, Hidden Depths, The Glass Room, Crow Trap)

Ann Cleeves is an excellent writer. I discovered her through the Vera series, and bought these books in the hopes that they would be as good. They are, although quite different. I like the long period of character development that occurs before any detective work begins. Even though I love a good murder mystery, many books in this genre skimp on drawing compelling, believable characters whose fate actually matters to the reader. The greats like Ruth Rendell, P.D. James, Carolyn Graham, and Ann Cleeves write not only intriguing mysteries, but beautifully written novels. I'm so glad to be able to add Ann Cleeves to my list of favorites. BONUS: This set was advertised as 7 volumes, but I received 8. Excellent deal!

For those who love a good mystery, set in a faraway place, featuring a Detective who completely dedicates her life to her job, this set is for you! The first half of the three books I have finished were spent entirely in delving into the personal lives of all involved. By the time DI Vera Stanhope makes her appearance in the second half of each book, you are very familiar with the featured Characters. If you sometimes wish things would speed up, have patience. All this background is important and will help you understand why the murder(s) was committed. I am finding these books fascinating and only wish I could travel to the Shetland Islands in Scotland for a personal visit with Vera!

I bought them for my husband to read, since he had watched the series of VERA on TV. He read them all in no time. Then we watched Vera again on TV, and some were taken from the movies, but some we did not recognized at all. The books are well written. This set will make a great gift!

Just discovered Ann Cleeves and I enjoyed both this series and her Shetland series. Great for folks who like discovering an area and the inhabitants, as well as a tightly crafted mystery. I enjoyed getting the full series and reading it in order - that was a bargain!

This author has brought so much entertainment for me! I love the character of Vera and cannot get enough of her. You think after reading you know this character personally. She is so real. Can't get enough of these books about the character of Vera. Thanks Ann Cleeves for filling so many hours of reading enjoyment.

Fun to buy the full series for my bookshelf

I purchased these books last October and love them. Unfortunately, I thought there were eight books in the set (as the description says), and didn't notice that I had only received seven (as the title says and the picture shows) until after I had finished reading the seventh book, recently. Imagine my dismay when I reached for what I thought was the last book in the set (The Seagull) only to discover that it was a different, similar-looking book which I had placed the Vera set on top of in October. My bad for not paying attention when I received the order, but the description really needs to be corrected.

I have always enjoyed the TV show Vera on OPB. These books are even better! Great reads and hard to put down. Very well written.

Ann Cleeves is one of a very few female authors that I enjoy. She extensively develops her characters who are totally believable. Her plots are very well constructed without gratuitous violence or sex. Once again; A very good read.

It was what I like and was not disapointed.

Loved Ann Cleeses characters, both the humans and the countryside of Scotland. Complex cases unfolded in the culture of this unique and isolated area. Hated to read the last book as it was as if I had lost a whole group of friends.
