Good albumn

if you are the type of person who likes to throw themselves around the living room in wild abandon to celebrate the RIGHT noise coming out of the speakers, then be aware that you won't be able to stop for the first 23 minutes (5 tracks) of this superbly enhanced collection. these are all in the 'guiding star' rhythm, each one a belter, credited to tommy mccook, leroy siibles, (2x) simplicity people and augustus pablo, makes for one of the best opening sequences on a reggae compilation, ever.this was originally released as an 11 track album in 1976, and has been considerably beefed up to 40, using a great range of versions and dubs, and instead of maintaining the standard of the original, this has vastly improved the album. not all the tracks have been subject to version (such as horace andy's brilliant take on 'delilah'), but those that have are situated in pockets of 2,3 or 4 throughout. disc 2 kicks off with 4 takes each on the 'leggo beast', 'no no no/screaming target' and 'skylarking' rhythms with contributions from those named above, i roy and roman stewart. indeed, version heaven. and if that's not enough, there is also excellent material by gregory isaacs, dennis brown, delroy wilson, the heptones, etc, etc. i've been looking forward to this comp for a few months now, and have to say it has even surpassed my high expectations of it. in one easy volume it expands the work of gussie clarke to a one-stop instant guide for those wishing to explore the man's studio craft. it should also be noted how fresh the album sounds, by whatever techniques applied. another triumph brought to us from the people at vp records.
