what a simple, wonderful and powerful book.
Mental prayer often overlooked and extremely underrated in building our relationship with God. This books is written so well. Simple and concise yet it had a powerful impact on me. I was formal in my prayers reciting the Our Father or Hail Mary daily or nightly. This books explains that the formal side of prayer is great but God what’s a real run ship with us and to build that relationship, God wants to hear from us on an informal level as well. This book explains mental prayer, it’s importance and how to do it with reverence in growing our relationship with God.I highly recommend this book.

Benefits of mental or contemplative prayer - Time for God
Perhaps one of the one most encouraging books on contemplative prayer for me. One of the most important things he says of the life of prayer is "regardless of what we may or may not feel, the preparation we have or have not made, how good we are or are not at stringing beautiful thoughts together - regardless of our whole inner state- God is there, with us, looking at us and loving us. He is not there because we deserve him or feel his presence, but because he gave his promise: "Go into your room, shut the door, and pray to your Father who is in secret... (Mt 6:6). There are two pastors on utube who are very close to Fr. Jacques' spirituality .One is Ted Nottingham and the other Richard Rohr. Both have books on Amazon. I am not sure if Fr. Jacques is on utube. He does have other wonderful books on Amazon. Check out utube on Ted Nottingham. His Sunday sermons are terrific for encouraging the Christ led life. MANY BLESSINGS ps. Besides giving us ideas on how to start prayer, Jacques says also, "The life of prayer is the source of infinite riches. It transforms us within, sanctifies us, heals us, helps us to know and love God, makes us fervent and generous in love of neighbor. Provided they persevere, those who commit themselves to a life of prayer can be absolutely sure of receiving all this and more. It is a very beautiful and healing book. Please consider it .

motivational but deep read
I bought this book for my church book club. It has helped draw me into a deeper prayer life, which I needed and was ready for. It is a short book but took a couple of weeks to read because I had to be in the right mind frame when I sat down to read and contemplate.

Best book for someone to start mental prayer
Mental prayer is the most important type of prayer and is a hidden jewel of graces for those who want to share in the fullness of faith in God and the Catholic Church. I had extreme difficulty in figuring out what mental prayer actually was and how to start praying it until a priest at confession suggested "Time for God" to my wife. We both learned about mental prayer thanks to Father Phillippe and we have tried to persevere in it ever since. This is a short, 100 page book that is a must for EVERY CHRISTIAN, if you really want to pray effectively to God and allow yourself to come closer to God like never before. In fact order two copies, because you will always want to keep an extra copy to pass on to friends, as you will want to share the gift of mental prayer with your family and friends.

Very Good
This is an excellent book on the spiritual life and mental prayer. It was recommended to my by an old priest who said that it was the best book he had ever read on the spiritual life and has not disappointed. It is both accessible and relevant to everyone no matter if one has just begun to pray of if one has been praying for many decades. It is simple but not simplistic. It is the kind of book that one can go back and read and re-read man times and still gain something from. It also has the mark of an excellent book on prayer: the author successfully anticipates what the reader is thinking and addresses it.
