Just what we needed!
I was heading to Texas for work, and decided to make a vacation out of it, and stay a week. My husband thought I was crazy, because he didn’t think there’d be enough to see and do to interest us, so I got this book. He read it cover to cover (loved it!) and then insisted we take a two week vacation because he was so excited by all the options. It turned out to be one of our best trips ever. We LOVED all of the museums in Dallas and the rodeo stuff in Fort Worth (found terrific restaurants through the book). Then we flew to San Antonio for a few days (fabulous city!) and also did Austin (we stayed out dancing and had a ball there). Overall: we learned so much about the history and culture of the state, thanks to this book. And because of the good organization, detailed info, and star ratings (love those) we were able to easily put together a vacation that didn’t feel too rushed, but that allowed us to see and experience a LOT.

This book made our vacation so much better
We knew we wanted to visit Texas, but weren’t sure what part, and since it’s such a HUGE state, figuring out a plan was essential. We tried to do so online, but that was not working and so we ended up getting the book, and suddenly how to make the trip work became SO much clearer. We ended up using the “Best of Texas in 2 Weeks” itinerary from the book, which took us to the top sights in Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, Galveston, Port Aranses, San Antonio, Fredericksburg and Austin. We also spend some time in Big Bend National Park, which was awesome. We also really liked the fact that the author is a clear Texan, and so was able to steer us to all of the best restaurants, nightspots and shops. The history was explained in a compelling manner, and we knew what to look for in each of the historic sites, musems, etc. that we visited. It really was the trip of a lifetime thanks to this guide (which is far more comprehensive than other Texas books—we got a few).

Great state and great book!
We loved Texas, and loved this guide. In fact, in the course of our road trip we visited relatives and they were so surprised by how much we’d been able to see and do, and the great restaurants the guide steered us to. We really appreciated how accurate it was, in terms of travel details, and how smart the itineraries were. Just a great, great book (better than Lonely Planet, we thought).

Good for large cities, not for smaller towns
Has the major cities and attractions, going into depth on them. However very little is written about smaller towns around Texas. So if you're wanting that info this isn't the book for you.

No information about the real state of Texas
I was surprised that the writer shows a very bias guide to one of the most Conservative states in the USA. The state is famous for its outdoor hunting and fishing activities but nary a mention of the locations for those activities. But if you want urban biking or nightclubbing then this is the book for you. I found it nearly impossible to imagine that the writer says that it was appalling that Texas allows open carry on the streets or in businesses etc. Has she never read the Bill of Rights? I have several Frommer's guides but this one is the only one that was written with such a bias opinion.

Very useful.
gave lots of good information, and useful for me to have lots of cities covered in one book, as I was moving around the state a lot.
