Greater Manchester Short Walks for all Ages

This book suggests 20 easy walks in Greater Manchester
This book suggests 20 easy walks in Greater Manchester, and covers North, South, East and West districts within Greater Manchester. Suggested walks are between 2 and 5.5 miles in length and are all in circular style. The author provides good information about accessing the walks if using public transport including bus, train or tram and links to Greater Manchester transport services. Facilities such as toilet, and nearest cafe' or pub are helpfully listed too, and if you're taking your dog for a walk, it tells you how dog-friendly the walk is and whether or not a lead is required. Each walk has a route map clearly marked in red, with helpful description of each section along with photographs and a brief history of the place. The author lists which Ordnance Survey map the walk is on and recommends reader to use along with the guide book. I'm not an expert map reader or compass user. A compass is not required for this level, but I do have the Ordnance Survey Explorer Maps. The first walk I followed listed route exactly around Daisy Nook - would go again, even though it was very muddy in places (walked in February) and this guide book was easy to follow. The second walk I've done was based around Haigh Hall Country Park(Wigan). Used listed walk as a guide only, as there are so many footpaths around Haigh Hall Country Park and surrounding woods, and also Leeds and Liverpool Canal passes through it. I needed the Explorer Map because I wanted to do an extended walk to another village. I've lived in Greater Manchester for over 20 years, and will use this book to visit places I haven't been to before and follow walks around places that are more familiar.

great walkers guide
Great walking guide book. First of all the walks are for everyone and for any time of the year. The choice of places is very nice and worth seeing. The path description is very good. Someone may complain about the maps but the maps in any guidebook are just to show the places generally. I follow OS maps anyway. I loved the book so much that I bought other from the series: walks in Cheshire, North Wales and Lancashire. Highly recommended for everyday walker, especially for weekends to enjoy your outdoor time.

Great book
Great book for anyone who is after a 3-6 mile walk around the greater Manchester area. I've done quite a few of these walks and found them to be family friendly.
