I can't move them. I'm guessing a touch of glue is holding them in place, not nails or pegs.

I don't know what you mean by putting spices in here. I wouldn't recommend loose spices there is a gap between the lid and the diving area and they would get mixed together. Is you mean small bottles, I would say they would be hard to remove. It's is made of wood, a slightly damp rag or wood cleaner.

Q: Can the teabags stand on end in the slots?

Yes. I stand my tea bags up in the slots. Each slot fits at least 12-14 tea bags (about a box).
