Rosemary's Baby from the Castevet's Perspective
This film presents a truly novel take on the 'Rosemary's Baby' type story. While that story has been told and re-told time and again since its initial release in 1968, 'Anything for Jackson' manages to retell it in a truly unique and engaging way. This is thanks in no small part to the stellar performances provided by Sheila McCarthy (whose performance is very reminiscent of Frances Conroy) and Julian Richings in the role of the Walsh couple. Rather than being portrayed as a pair of evil conniving Satanists, the Walsh couple are remarkable in their ordinariness. They bumble, they make mistakes - they truly feel like an authentic couple overcome by grief who make some terrible choices in a situation of absolute desperation. They consistently steal the show and the film is absolutely at its best whenever they are on screen. While there is certainly more to praise about this film than there is to criticise, it is still not perfect. A major fault is its inclusion of a superfluous character during the second half who really contributed nothing to the plot besides to dilute it. It was a disappointing move, and the film would have been much improved without his inclusion. Also at fault was the soundtrack (or lack thereof). The score is extremely forgettable, and does nothing but serve to undermine the film throughout. It is very disappointing as the weak score is what stands out as negatively affecting several otherwise effective scenes. It does still manage to provide several good scares, with the unifying theme being that they are scenes in which the Walsh couple feature. The ending is unfortunately weak, providing little conclusiveness to the story we had just been engrossed in. I'm still not entirely sure what the ending was supposed to imply - and that's not in the good way of it having provoked questions or debate. It also would have been nice if the film had paid its dues to the occult side of its story and included some more real-life lore on the subject. All-in-all, I would absolutely recommend this film as being one worth watching. It's best enjoyed if you're able to devote your full attention to it and take it seriously as a horror movie so that you may take in all the harrowing moments it has to offer. It's a serious horror film, and not a fun-flick to enjoy with a bag of popcorn. Be warned!

Good horror
Surprisingly good film. Actually quite believable as it's not overdone. Some grotesque/scary scenes too. Well worth the watch.

Solid creepy horror
Have to say this was easily one of the better horror's i've watched recently. Great acting and interesting story, good dose of lore. Some creepy moments.I didn't want to criticise this movie but just noting what others have said about the ending, endings in horrors are notoriously difficult I feel. You have all that tension or mystery that carries a horror movie, and I feel endings often dispel all that. The ending was solid and i'd definitely recommend this movie if you like horrors.

Surprisingly good actually!
This isn't a movie you'd watch again, but for a nice, simple horror with a decent story and a few super creepy moments, certainly worth a watch. Great acting too.

Very enjoyable, well acted horror with good scares and some solid practical FX
Went in blind, had a good time. Looks to be the debuting horror from a man who did TV romance movies, and I'm excited to see what comes next.

Takes Some Unexpected Moves With Its Original Premise
The death of a beloved family member is one of those things that might make people do things they otherwise wouldn't, but in Anything For Jackson, a pair of grandparents, Henry and Audrey (Julian Richings and Sheila McCarthy) take it to extremes. The pair makes a pact with the devil to return their deceased grandson, Jackson (Daxton William Lund) by putting his soul into an unborn baby. They abduct single mother-to-be Shannon (Konstantina Mantelos) and wait for what they hope will be the second coming of Jackson. But things don't go as planned, spiraling out of control as demons physically manifest in their home and spirits began to possess anyone who comes too close to the house. From that general premise, I thought that this would be a really intense experience (like The Exorcism Of Emily Rose, The Conjuring movies and The Exorcist films), which in places it is. I also thought it would have the potential to make a really strong pull on the heartstrings, and in places it does. But what it mainly seems to focus on, surprisingly, is humor, albeit a very dry, black humor, and an air of quirky weirdness. If I'd known that going in, I probably would have thought that it wasn't likely to work, but I would have been wrong. It's a very unique movie. There are some genuine scares in here, but mostly it works the weirdness angles, and the actors in the show were perfectly cast to bring subtle, dry wit and that indefinable strangeness to the movie. One weakness is that it doesn't quite nail its ending. In fact, there barely is an ending, and it's not just that the finale is ambiguous. It's kind of like the credits start to roll and it feels like a final scene or two got left out. Maybe they're planning a sequel, which is something I'd be up for. Overall, Anything For Jackson is a good movie, although I still wouldn't mind if someone did a movie (maybe even this one's sequel?) focusing more on the really horrific elements. Don't let that stop you from getting this one though. Good, solid horror/black comedy film.

NOT WORTH YOUR TIME
This was like watching a third of a movie because it needed two more drafts done to the script before shooting. Good premise but terrible execution. It was slow, amateurish, not scary AT all, and misleading with its trailer. You expect something about black magic, evil forces, satanic violence, but get a limp, laughable and confusing mess. It was missing so much more meat on the bones that would have fleshed out the characters and the devil worship. It left me asking "Is that it?". Don't waste your money or time.
