Straight forward to use
The DVD does what it should. All went well. I cannot guarantee how long it will work - that is simply a matter of testing over time. Having a manual drawer gives me more confidence that a DVD will not get stuck and that it will not be scratched.

SIMPLY PLUG IN
This is a nice piece of kit. I have a new slimline laptop, which unfortunately, comes without a DVD/CD player/writer so I surfed the net for a solution. Eventually I found this on Amazon, read the reviews and decided to go for it. Easy to instal, just plug it in, let your PC/laptop whatever "find" it, no drivers are necessary. I use Windows 11, it identified the drive and away you go. Just one thing, originally I connected via the USB plug, this did not work, so I used the smaller connector USB C this does work. Highly recommended. Supplier even contacted me via Amazon to ask if everything was working okay. Excellent service like that is very rare these days.

Not enough power to run from USB C
I plugged this into a USB C connection on my Framework 16 laptop and I expected it to be plug and play. It wasn't. When I tried to play a cd Windows reported an error that the drive was trying to draw too much power. The manual refers to this issue and advises the use of a 5v/2a power bank but gives no further information. I have no idea how to source the afore mentioned power bank. When I did a search for it in Amazon it came up with power banks for heated clothes. Functionally useless.

Works great!
I bought this to hook up to my laptop to watch DVD's. It's so simple to hook up. It even came with a carrying case. It's really compact, barely bigger than a DVD. I like the cord tucked inside the case so theres nothing to keep track of. The picture and sound are great. It's a bargain for the price. I highly recommend it.

An Absolute Must Have!
Now in my 40s, I actively burned playlists onto CDs practically every month since my early 20s (that's a lot of discs!). Once I got a MacBook in 2008, I disbanded the habit and just kept meticulously maintained playlists on my iTunes (now Apple Music), which means that I had about 18 years of CDs packed into sleeves and folders. Now that most computers no longer come with disc drives, and CD players themselves are nearly obsolete, I wanted to find a way to digitize the entire soundtrack of my adulthood onto my Apple Music to join the rest of my playlists. Two projected problems with this, as I saw it: a) so many of the discs were scratched and in bad shape, and I was worried that they'd be unreadable by any drive, and b) the sheer time it would take to rip around 220 CDs to my MacBook. I took a chance on this product after hemming and hawing over many options on Amazon, and did I ever strike gold. Not only is the transfer time incredibly fast, but the machine is almost silent and takes up hardly any space on my desk. The best part? It's able to read scratched, old discs that even high-end CD players will sputter and skip over. Honestly, 20-year-old discs that were in such bad shape were ripped almost effortlessly. (It was, however, unable to read a handful of discs that had literal deep cracks in them, but I definitely won't fault the machine for that—they're broken discs.)The one and only downside is the time it took me to rename all the tracks (from Track 1, Track 2, Track 3, etc.) in my Apple Music to the tracks' actual names and artists after burning each disc, but that's on me due to the enormous number of discs I made over the years. In all, I managed to burn all 220 discs and rename them and integrate them into my Apple Music within a week and a half.It also reads and rips DVDs with zero issue and flawless quality.Hands down, this product saved my old homemade music collection, and I can now toss all those old discs away. BUY THIS EXTERNAL DRIVE. It's the best purchase I've made in a long time.
