best hood i have ever used!
this jacket has held up great! I live on an island in New England working for a boat yard so not only does this jacket get beat up from working in bilges etc but also when crawling around on docks, wading out to hook tow lines up to beached boats in storms but its also around a lot of paints and solvents. it is still very bright for being close to a year old with pretty much daily use, and has stayed waterproof. I would suggest using regular grundens bibs if you will be sitting in water or on abrasive surfaces as they are a bit dryer and stronger. will defiantly buy another when I wear this one out!the pocket mesh is starting to tear in a few spots (surprised its lasted this long after always having wrenches and parts in them) and there is one micro hole in the left arm from moving cribbing blocks around for blocking boats.I bought this jacket for directing traffic when moving boats down the street and now wear it all the time!the hood also stays on better then any jacket I have had in the past! a major plus when out on the open work boat in 40-50 knot winds.do your self a favor if you are looking for a good way to be seen as well as stay dry and buy this jacket!

Excellent Product
We purchased rain gear for 2 of our workers. Two were Grundéns Men's Weather Watch Bib Trouser in glacier blue. And two were Grundéns Men's Weather Watch Ansi Fishing Jacket in Hi-Vis Yellow (please note, one of the jackets was not available from OutdoorEquipped and purchased elsewhere. We have had some very stormy, windy, wet weather the last week and he guys are very happy with their rain gear. Both gentlemen ordered their normal size, and everything fit as expected. They wear their gear over their uniforms. When asked if they liked their rain gear, I was told "We love them! They're great! Thanks soooo much." They offered no complaints. As for shipping...best ever! Very often with free shipping you wait forever, but we received the items in 2 shipments, one in 5 days the other in 7 days. We highly recommend Grundéns trousers and jackets and will purchase them again.

Great all around jacket for fishing in light to Medium level elements
I've had the Jacket for 4 years now. I recreationally fish from the beginning of the fishing season to late Nov. It has gone through allot of heavy downpours, waves, wind etc. and has held up well (and also scrunching it up and tucking it away). I've put it through the wash and hung dried it many times and still did its job when I'm out fishing and not restrictive in movements. It's not a warm jacket so you def. need to wear layers underneath. It just protects you from medium level elements. Just recently, I've noticed some small areas started to get me a little damp underneath so some moisture is starting to come through the material. I knew it would happen eventually but I am surprised it has held up this long. For the money, I definitely would buy it again and I would definitely recommend it.

Durable, versatile and inexpensive
This is a very versatile piece of gear. Ideally used for rugged work environments, the Gage Weather Watch has served me well for both everyday casual use and lightweight backpacking trips as well.I used this as a construction worker and it held up very well to the abuses of rough work for 2+ years (until I lost it and promptly bought a new one). It is much more durable than the lighter weight shells made by patagonia, columbia, north face, etc. Anyone who has worn a tool belt for 8 hours around their clothing knows that it exacts a toll on any kind of fabric which these more expensive jackets would not hold up under. It also does not have excessive amounts of mesh inside which helps reduce the bulk. The fabric is not as heavy as Grundens' Raingear meant for commercial fishing, but is a nice, fully waterproof middle ground. I know tree climbers and loggers who favor the Gage gear for their work, citing its durability and lack of restriction of movement. For most rugged outdoor work this is a great choice. With regards to casual use, and if money is no object for you, I would recommend heading over to your nearest REI and picking up any of the ultra lightweight, ultra breathable options that will set you back a lot more than $60. Typically you will need to spend at least $100 (and often closer to $200-$250), but if you are flush then these are clearly better options mainly due to their breathability. That is one area where the Gage Weather Watch is a bit lacking in. Just adding ventilation zippers in the underarms would improve this jacket tremendously. If you exert yourself at all you will feel the condensation, especially in the armpit areas. As a backpacking shell, the same issues apply as with casual use. The breathability is even more of an issue in the backcountry especially if you are dealing with some elevation gains on the trail. I still use it, but that is mainly because I am not wealthy and would rather spend the meager budgeted funds on more essential improvements to other gear. I also, tend toward a minimalist approach, so versatility of equipment is a crucial factor for me. The weight/bulk of this jacket is not a real issue, as the minor gain in weight as compared to the more technical, expensive shells is more than offset by the improvement in durability. If your main concern is weight, there are plenty of much cheaper ounces to cut (sleeping pad, tent, etc) that would shave more weight and bulk for less of a price gain. With that said, if money is no issue, I would certainly upgrade to something specifically designed for backpacking mainly because of the breathability.Other nice features include the two front zipper pockets, two very large mesh pockets on the inside, great coverage of the neck, good solid structure, stylish, cinching hood and waist, velcro adjustable wrists, and the price can't be beat!

Great light duty jacket, very adjustable
This is the 5th time I've bought this rain coat. I run deep sea charters out of gloucester, mass. I was a mate for 2 decades from commercial fishing, lobstering, and fishing charters. This coat is a perfect spring to early fall jacket for light duty on and off deck. Wouldn't hold up for slinging traps; but these things stay waterproof for like 3 years if you don't rip it. Always wears out from inside, i replace the jacket once the back of the neck leaks. I also use the worn ones when I'm cutting a few hundred to upwards of 1000 fish on the long rides back to port.
