Monkey Man [DVD] [2024]

This film makes the most of its Indian setting and delivers some amazing fight action!

An unnamed man making a living in the underground fighting rings on the city back streets in India is given an opportunity to rise serving the corrupt elite until he is given the opportunity to seek vengeance against those who murdered his mother when he was a child and who continue to prey upon the weak.Monkey Man is superb directorial debut from Dev Patel who also does an exceptional job as the living weapon of the title, seeking vengeance and living the spirit of the legend of Hanu-Man, a Hindu deity. The flashbacks to his past trauma are handled well as are the stories of supporting characters in the film, looking at the caste system, discrimination, extreme poverty on the streets of India as well as the experiences of transgender communities in India. The second half of the film really brings the action, the first half is a slow build up but it is worth it for what can only be described as The Raid in India as our unnamed hero takes out levels of villains he reaches the big bad. A very entertaining vengeance thriller with well choreographed fights, a superb back story with well written characters and some truly bone crunching violence.

Was entertaining from the start good film

Some fun elements and good core story. Love a slice of Dev Patel and great to see Wickes back from space (District 9). Mashed up story let's it down.

A real mile a minute film, viceral, raw and highly entertaining, with a great deal of soul.

If you like action movies then you won’t be disappointed in this. Brilliant movie .

I dont understand all the praise for this film. The film was just not very good at all. 4.10

I loved this film in the cinema and am really looking forward to seeing it again and again.Excellent performance by Dev Patel and I think he did a cracking job of directing the movie as well.We are just coming into June and this is my top film of 2024 so far.
