Part 1 - The Shattered Oath.The book follows Todd who is forced to join the ranks of The Royal Skuas and assigned to the legendry Sabres.This steampunk world is in the middle of a revolution and of course, this breeds evil.What can I say about his book?Well for starters - for 208 pages, a HECK of a lot is packed in there! It seems every single page holds action and interest so you don't lose interest.I did find that I took a little time to get into the book but this was purely due to the fast pace. Usually other books of this genre are a bit slower (!) but when I got into the book, I thoroughly enjoyed it - definitely wasn't bored!Todd is a great character for this story to revolve around as he is young and you'd think, impressionable but... he is not. It's really great to see him develop slowly.The world that has been crafted is very dark and is very much like it is described - gothic which I enjoyed.As the the story is split on land and also on sea, there is a lot of room there for C.S. Wood to expand the world which I am intrigued about!We leave on a bit of a cliffhanger so this Bookstagrammer is watching out for Book 2!A fab read and start to the series!

It follows three generations of Royal Navy Skuas, across land and sea, trying to uphold a sworn oath to protect their King and kingdom. But how do you keep to such an oath, when you discover that your enemies not only come from another land, but now also lie within the very political and command infrastructure you are trying to defend. This book is not for the faint-hearted as no-one's life is safe from those who seek control of the kingdom and a mysterious ore, hycinthium-lapis, that generates energy. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait for part two.

Brilliantly written and packed full of adventure creating a whole new world of characters you can relate. Really impressive considering this is a debut!

Loved every second of diving into the world of the Skuas. Rich and diverse characters and twists I did not see coming. Recommend to anyone who loves a great adventure tale.
