KEENMen's Clearwater CNX Sandal

Like all blokes I've struggled with showing my feet through my shoes over the years. What to do? Go the leather 'ugly but you know it's proper shoe material' look? Try the 'I might go hiking but I'm actually just on the high street' style? Or how about 'I don't really care so black Velcro is fine by me' ultimate cheapos? I've tried them all and I can tell you, as the first pair of Keens I've bought, that these beat them all. Super comfortable from the box, really tough, and versatile - I've so far worn them to a music festival, on a bike, and around the house. The real test will be going around Japan this summer. They do perhaps fit a bit more into the 'hiking' category but as I'll be using them for that it's fine. I actually think they just look quite nice. And I've always worried about the basic vulnerability of my toes in sandals so I like the trademark Keen chunky toe cap. So there you go - solves a blokey problem without being uncomfortable. Am already thinking of ordering a second pair.Update from Japanese trip - continued to cope really well but on longer walks and slightly stonier terrains I found myself thinking thicker soles might make my feet slightly less tired. Also the thinner soles of the CNX's mean you are more likely to get little stones flicked into the shoe on gravelly paths. But these are small issues - still a fantastic sandal and next summer I may simply buy the hikier version and take both. I actually only wore the other shoes I brought with me once - on the plane.Here's an update 2 years later - they're still my most comfortable sandals of all time, and the other thicker soled Keens I bought (Newport) thinking these were too thin to wear all the time are just too bulky and hot to wear anywhere that is above about 22 degrees. I would rather have bought a second pair of these and hope they don't discontinue them at some point, as I will definitely be buying another pair when (if?) these ones wear out.

Really pleased with these sandals - hardwearing, go anywhere and great fit.

Very comfy, just the toes are tight. Could have been wider at the front. Other than that these sandals look good and feel comfortable.

Lightweight, contoured, strapped shoes. Easy to put on and comfortable to wear can be used like open sandals or with socks if preferred. Well contoured to give full foot support.

Very comfortable and provides good stability. Too soon to really comment on durability, but it's well made and seems promising.

Just received my 3rd pair which seem as good as ever. They generally last me 2 or 3 years. I have tried alternatives including other Keen styles but the Clearwater CNX remains the best in my opinion. There is some scope for adjustment and they do loosen up a little so I find the sizing accurate. Great for summer walking and holidays.Advantages: (1) They protect your toes. You can trip over a tree root or stub your toe against a rock without it ruining your holiday.(2) Passable alternative to shoes if packing light.Disadvantages:(1) Although they don't mind getting soaked the fabric will feel damp afterwards which is not pleasant in cool conditions.(2) Small stones e.g. beach shingle can get in but can't get out. In some terrains you have to keep stopping to shake them out.

Really good product replaces a pair that lasted 15years

My husband always wears Keen sandals, so I felt confident in ordering his usual size 9's. He was pleased with the closed rubber toe and the fabric construction appeared sturdy and well made. He first tried them on wearing socks in case they didn't fit and had to be returned, and could not get his foot in at all. Even after opening the drawcord at the front to its fullest extent his foot would not go in any further than the instep. Without socks he made more headway- and we could see that the sandals were big enough- but the problem lies with the fixed and non-stretchy back strap which has no adjustment and no means of opening it. The sandal is in fact more like an open shoe. Eventually, and with the aid of a pull-up cord threaded through the tab at the back of the heel, (and a lot of swearing) he managed to get his foot in, and finds them flexible and comfortable in use. But owing to the struggle he has with the sandals every time they are put on or removed, he is not wearing them as frequently as his old pair. Nb there is no mention of the construction in the description and it is not really obvious on the accompanying photograph. I do not know if going up a size would make things any better since once they are on they do fit and are not tight at all.

I had to finally admit my old Keens sandals were looking pretty bad. They were stilll super comfortable, but after 10 years or more of hard wear in some tough places, they were pretty shabby. I was reluctant to replace them , but my wife said they had to go and she was right. I had my doubts about these new ones, but they were comfortable as soon as I slipped them on. They are soft on the inside and tough on the outside. The only really comfortable sandals I've ever owned and I've owned quite a few.

These are really well made and comfortable especially if worn with socks. Buy one size up from you would normally would wear. I saw that on prior reviews and it is spot on. These dont have arch supports but they will definitely protect my feet from rocks etc. The soles are tough. When they get wet they dry quickly. Great product.

I love the KEEN Clearwater CNX *womens* shoes but I have no use for *mens* shoes. Title description is wrong.
