Stock Market for Beginners Paycheck Freedom: The Easiest Guide to Personal Investing Ever Written

Good basic premise, but too vague to be useful.
Based on the reviews, I was hoping for more from this book. That's not to say there is not good information here - it basically drives home the methods of Benjamin Graham and Warren Buffet in that you should invest methodically over time (dollar-cost averaging) and, in general, you won't beat the market in the long term. But the book is also contradictory in a frustrating fashion. According to the book, you need to both be patient enough to leave your money invested during down turns and bad news about a company, but smart enough to know when to pull your money out and cut your losses, but gives absolutely no guidance on what factors to consider when considering this.Similarly, the book does give specific stock examples that the author has picked the feature in the book and he often says that the stocks mentioned in (most of) the book are ones he feels are generally good investments - to that extent, I do not disagree - but doesn't provide any information on how to evaluate stocks in general outside of comparing them to others in the segment. The stocks listed in this book are well recognized names and are likely to do well, so if you are fine with hoping the ones listed here will be successful (which would be totally against what the author preaches - rightfully saying you should do your own research) then this may be the book for you; however, there is no information on what to look for when comparing one stock versus another. If a stock outperforms competitors' stocks, what should an investor look for as to guess whether this may continue or if it's just a coincidence? The author does describe what most of the market "buzzwords" are, but does not offer any insight into what they practically represent and what an investor should look for when scouting stocks. He provides good advice as long as all you're going to do is pick a company you like and invest, but not if you want to research to sort through options. If you are literally buying your first stock and don't care about whether you will have the ability to analyze stocks on your own, this book may be beneficial. If you are living paycheck to paycheck and are looking to break that cycle, this book might provide some much-needed motivation. If, however, you are looking for a book to help you learn how to analyze stocks and compare them to others, you'll need to go elsewhere.

THIS BOOK IS A RESOUNDING WINNER!
If YOU have never opened an online discount brokerage trading account; if YOU have never invested in stocks; if YOUdon't know a thing about buying a stock(s), if YOU think you're too young to start investing; if YOU think you're too old to start investing; if YOU are financially illiterate in any way; then THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU! I'm so glad I purchased and read this book before opening an online trading account and before purchasing my first stock. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is thinking about investing in stocks for the very first time. Buy it---you'll like it!

Very good IF YOU ARE AN ABSOLUTE BEGINNER
"Stock Market for Beginners" is exactly what it says it is: A guide for absolute beginners who are thinking about investing in the stock market. Key words here: 1) Beginners and 2) Investing. If you know nothing about buying/selling stocks this book is for you. If you want to invest, not 'trade', stocks this book is for you. There are some great, general principles about common sense investing over the long-term for those new to the stock market, but there is little in the way of guidelines for buying/selling stocks on a more short-term basis. I think Mr. Singletary does an outstanding job of simplifying stock market investing without the adding the complications of examining fundamentals or doing technical analysis. The references, links, and cautionary advice in this book are very good, as well, and should be useful to readers. However, if you are more familiar with the stock market than an absolute beginner and/or looking for more detail about technical concepts, there are probably other books that would be more useful to you.

Powerful Investment.
Mr. Singletary's book on stock investing is priceless. I've read some darn good books on stock investing, but his is the gold mine I was looking for. I've learned a great deal from his book that really opened my eyes and mind about stock investing. I highly recommend readers grab this bad boy while they can. His book is like A1 steak sauce. "Yeah, it's that important!" Kudos to you Mr. Singletary.

Short and sweet
I found this book to be very helpful. I know very little about the stock market and needed to start somewhere. I appreciate the authors frankness and I never felt as if I was being talked down to or that he was trying to sell me something. In particular he didn't answer faqs by telling you what to do but by instructing the reader how to make a decision. I would recommend this book to anyone who is just starting out on the journey to investing in the stock market.

Great read for a new investor.
I am new to investing and found this book practical and easy to understand. The author uses examples from some of the world's leading investors and hit on many big-picture ideas that have been successful over time. Great read!

Helped me get started!
This book broke down the basics of investing for someone like me who knew absolutely nothing about investing. I learned how to evaluate stocks by using common sense. This book did not go heavy into the ins and outs of buying stock and that’s what makes me give it a 5 star. It’s enough to you started with a solid foundation.

A steal...
Very readable, well-organized and presented. Lots of wisdom, experience, and common sense. A great starting point for a novice like me. Really, a bargain for the price! I read it in just a few days (it was that digestible) and appreciated the personal anecdotes and real-life business examples. Very well done! I feel like I took an introductory course from the comfort of my sofa...

Great book.
From all the beginner books on investing this is the one I would recommend to buy. It gives examples of companies and what to consider, handy Q and A section, and popular stocks. I also like the quotes about success.
