Q: The 12 inch clamp description says the adjustment range is less than an inch, yet the photos show several inches, so which is it?

Hi, Thanks for your question. This 12inch horse clamp can be varied the diameter from 11.4 inch to 12.2 inch (289-311mm). In the photo, we just write the mạin size, it does not illustrate the variety of the product’s size

Q: 904 ss is magnetic, will have surface rust, a shorter life span. 304 ss won't rust, non magnetic, longer life span. what stainless steel are these?

304 stainless, but 304 stainless will rust if you clean it with anything that has carbon in it. ie carbon steel wire brush

Q: What is the strength of this clamp? How much force can it apply?

I didn't measure, but they drew the staves of my ice cream maker tight. BUT, once the bucket swelled up with moisture they weren't strong enough and the screw mechanism broke off. That's quite a bit of force, but I have no idea how to calculate how much.

Q: Can you combine two of these to make a larger circumference?

Yes you can combine several clamps together for a lager circumference.
