The tabs that are supposed to universally fit in the groove of composite decking does not fit Trex brand products. Tabs are way too thick.

Unfortunately these fasteners didn’t work for the type of composite decking boards I am using. These fasteners are well made and would have been easy to work with if I would have had the proper deck boards. The company accepted my request to return them for a full refund.

They state the are made for a certain size deck board. They fit no issue on boards that were roasting in sun. (First deck was an 8x16 no issues) next time same boards (in shade) 12x16 I had to persuade every clip in place with a scrap piece and hammer. (Just hammer liked to smoosh the edge to not fit in the next piece)Once I got a rhythm they did what they had too.

This product does not work with Trex. The hook is not high enough to connect into the standard groove on the Trex board.

I was replacing a worn out redwood deck with composite decking (off the rack at a big box store). I had used hidden galvanized clips on the old redwood deck since I didn’t want any top drilled holes to be visible or to be a place where water would collect, and I got used to the sleek appearance of hidden fasteners. In making the change to composite boards I realized I couldn’t just reuse the old clips so I got these. These are much easier to use than the old clips since the old ones needed to be sequentially put in, basically interlocking each board with the one before it. These new clips are a million times easier to use and can be removed easily if you ever need to switch out a single board, without having to pull up every board laid down after it. The black color and small head screw enable you to clip each board with even spacing with a fastener that’s pretty much unnoticeable afterwards. This is definitely more expensive than top-screwing your boards, but the end result and ease of installation is definitely worth it!

I used these on replacement decking on top of the old joist. Screws could be longer and the screws must be started in the spacer which takes even more time. It would be much easier if they came assembled.
