Q: Is militec 1 recommended for barrel lubrication?

Yes, it is not actually lubricant, but metal conditioner. It is Great for lube and protection. I won't use anything else.*It is NOT cleaner. I refuse to use CLP, even during deployments. I brought my own Hoppe's #9 to clean and Militec to lube.

It is full synthetic oil and it bounds to the metal on molecular level. This covers the "protect" part - less rust, less dirt attraction, etc.."Lubrication" is another aspect where militec1 is hard to beat. It makes (with proper treatment) metal parts very slick.As far as "cleaning", you might get better results with CLP.

Q: Is this a good oil for my folding Spyderco knife?

If you are going to use it on the joint/hinge on the knife, I think it should work. I use it on my shotgun as it does not attract dirt and does not gel up in the cold. A bottle like this would last you 10 lifetimes as you would only need to use 1-2 drops.

Q: How much would a person need to add to an auto engine or transmission?

One oz per quart of fluid, in engines, manual transmissions and differentals. I also run the same ratio in my motorcycles. And no, I have not had any issues with clutch slippage or otherwise.
