Under the visionary direction of Brian De Palma, and an adapted screenplay by David Mamet, THE UNTOUCHABLES is a must-see masterpiece. A glorious, fierce, larger-than-life depiction of good versus evil on the streets of Prohibition-era Chicago, Robert De Niro is unforgettable as mob warlord Al Capone and Kevin Costner as law enforcer Eliot Ness. The big-screen blockbuster hit earned Sean Connery an Oscar for his portrayal of veteran officer Jimmy Malone and the excellent supporting cast includes Patricia Clarkson, Andy Garcia and Charles Martin Smith.

Very Engaging—but may offend by its lack of sensitivity
This is a very good film. I wasn’t interested in seeing it when it came out in 1987 because the story is well-known and because I still remembered the old TV series. But the focus of attention here is on Ness’s mistakes and his seemingly impossible job. Al Capone was an ambiguous figure because he was making alcohol available to many people who choose to drink and didn’t see anything wrong with drinking. Capone presented himself as a devoted public servant. Robert DeNiro does a great job of capturing Capone’s elegant style—and also his brutality. This latter is important to the film. Ness is not on a campaign against alcohol, and by the end of the film he announces when the Volstead act is repealed, he will have a drink. The issue is rather Capone’s violence: his murders and his intimidation. As today, the problem with organized crime lies in criminal activity beyond what it makes available to the public. So, the film needs to establish that Capone needs to be stopped. Initially, Ness tries to work with the Chicago police department, but it is thoroughly corrupt. So, he needs to round up his own crew of Treasury agents. Sean Connery does a great job as possibly the only honest cop. Kevin Costner as the right combination of youthful naivete and dogged determination. Eventually, he comes to see that being effective requires police work that it is not legal--that's where current audiences may draw a line. The film does not shy away from distinguishing ethnic groups--another area that may offend the sensitive. There’s lots of violence, as you would expect, but no sex.

Elliot Ness versus Capone.
This movie is taken from real life and the TV series the Untouchables. A lot has been changed to update and make it better in the view of the filmmakers. It is a good movie thoroughly enjoyed, but please don’t believe that. A lot of this is fact.

Great Price, Not so Great Case
At $10.99 , the pricing on this item is phenomenal. The movie itself, I won't review. This is an absolute classic that has withstood the test of time, and deserves to be a part of your collection. My only minor gripe on this movie is the case it is in. Rather than being a Bluray or 4k case, it is in a DVD case. This makes it stand out like a sore thumb within the bluray collection in the shelf.
