Amusing cartoony fun
This is a family comedy in which Wesley Eure (who played Will Marshall in the Land of the Lost TV series) creates a robot dog. Shenanigans ensue. My personal theory is that Will escaped from the Land of the Lost and used its advanced alien technology to make this thing. This is lightweight stuff, fairly predictable, with Chuck McCann and Red Buttons as a pair of inept thieves and Jim Backus as their boss. The movie was produced by Hanna Barbera, famous for making Saturday morning cartoons, and its cartoon origins are pretty evident. There's lots of goofiness, and the dog, which is supposed to protect people and property, causes massive property damage and endangers human lives. It also follows commands in the form of numbers, and anyone can utter them, which seems like a rather catastrophic design flaw. The music, by the great Hoyt Curtin, is a combination of '70s disco and epic cartoon adventure themes that actually works pretty well. Then again, it's Hoyt. One thing that did surprise me was the use of a four-letter word starting with "S" in this G-rated movie. I'm not sure why that didn't up the rating to PG, but the rating system was different back then. Remember, Clash of the Titans and Sheena, Queen of the Jungle were both rated PG and contained full female nudity. The word comes right at the end, and is spoken by a dog, so I guess it was put in as a joke, something the kids would get a laugh out of. Anyway, this is harmless. Enjoy it for what it is.

Just like I remembered from when I was a kid.
This was a fun movie when I was a kid and still pretty fun to see again. Just a note, it's rated G but has two cuss words, one is literally the very last word of the movie, just stupid.

Should be re-classified as pg
The plot of the movie is ok. My 5 year old loved it, but it was ruined at the very end with an offensive word said by one of the characters. That one word makes it a pg movie, not g as it has been classified.

Entertaining
It was a nice movie to watch with our 8 year old son who has no clue what technology we had way back when. Actually this movie was still a little before my time but I saw it when I was his age. Admittedly, I had a crush on Ms. Valerie. My son thought it was entertaining and enjoyed the movie without today's CGI technology. Now he wants a robotic security dog as a pet. But honestly, I can't help but wonder why no one has developed C.H.O.M.P.S today with our advanced technology?
