I am looking at buying the 1650 pelican case! Is the foam as pictured or is it all there where I can make my own configuration?

The 1650 comes with 4 pieces of foam. A 1.5" for the case's lid(pictured), 2 - approx 4" Pick N Pluck foam and a 1" solid piece for the floor of the case. All but the floor piece extends the full length of the case, because of the handle a assembly. Easy to configure. Pelican's web site has some great ideas too.

Does fedex charge extra if you ship ur stuff in a pelican case versus a box of the same dimensions and weight? Should you put a lock on it or wire-tie

FED-EX charges are based on destination and weight

Is the handle on the side quite small like in in first ànd third photo, or large as in the second and fourth one ?

Bernd, the 1650 case that we own has a small handle like shown in the first & third photos. Hope this helps?

Can I use this as a check bag for airlines?

You can use it as a checked bag. Some airlines limit bag weight at 100lbs so keep that in mind when packing.
