Easy to use and read
If you have stony ground, be careful when pushing this in so that you don't break the prong. I take a number of readings at different depths in the area I'm interested in to get a feel for the PH. A single reading is likely to be misleading.

Useful Garden Gadget
I have never used anything to test the soil for ph or nutrients etc. before, I tend to be someone who gardens by instinct so when I saw this I thought it would be interesting to see what results it produced.First of all when I opened it I was surprised to see that it took a 9v battery so it was a trip to the shops before I could use it. Battery installed I chose to test the soil in my very fussy, potted lemon tree. The readings seemed ok but they did tend to change depending on where the device was in the pot, so I worked out an average but I don’t know if that was the correct thing to do. The temperature reading was stable it was just the nutrients and ph readings, the moisture was fine as well. The moisture levels and temperature readings were the ones I found most useful personally. I do like that you can record the readings over several days for comparison. I will probably use it in the garden next, for testing the soil when I plant new shrubs, just to check they are in the right place. The probe seems to slide into compost and soil easily and it stays upright. You are provided with a square of sandpaper to rub onto the tip to improve its ability just in case it stops working after a while. One feature I did like was the ability to angle the display part which made it really easy to read. The unit seems robust enough and well made.I will use it in the future for plants that are tricky to grow, although I could see myself becoming a little obsessive with it and not being quite so relaxed about my gardening in future.Overall, a good gadget. It comes packaged in a nice brown, craft-style box with instructions and I could see this making the ideal gift for a gardener.

Useful little tool.
As somebody who always forgets when they last watered their plants, I wanted something that would ensure I was not over or under-watering. The device also shows temperature, pH, fertility and sunlight level allowing for a comprehensive level of plant care. The unit is powered by a single 9V battery that is not supplied, but as the unit powers off after a few minutes, should last for many months. The device is easy to use having only two buttons, power and mode. The mode button toggles between temperature, pH and nutrient levels. Moisture and sunlight are permanently displayed and the tiltable screen allows the readings to be read from multiple angles. For myself, this is simply a handy little gadget that lets me check the moisture level in my plants, however, with all of the other readings available, it should allow for a more serious gardener to manage their growing on a more scientific level.

Great, but let down by the price
PACKAGING: Brown marketing boxPRODUCT: Digital soil condition meter. Quick user guide, Instruction manual. Sand paper.FUNCTION: This came well packaged inside the box. The meter was wrapped in plastic and the probe was secured in a block of foam.It uses a 9V battery which is not supplied. It is one of those rectangular prism shape type batteries with the snap on terminals. There is a lift off compartment on the rear of the LCD display which houses the battery. The probe is quite thick and has a copper looking strip around the end. The LCD display is large and my eyesight is poor, but reading the display was no problem. In addition, the head tilts so you do not have to bend down to read the display. It comes with a quick user guide and also a more comprehensive manual, and all 22 pages are in English. There is also a small piece of 500 grit sandpaper included in the box (look out for it as it would be easy to lose). This is to rub over the probe tip gently if it fails to function. On looking at the user manual you would worry operating the probe would be difficult, but it is relatively easy. You just need to get use to the different functions and how to access them. The meter gives you readings for soil PH, nutrient levels, light levels, temperature and moisture levels. It also has a memory function, so you have the option of keeping a record of up to 5 readings.I have a conservatory stuffed full of plants, so for me this device is really handy. However, at the time of this review the device was £29.99, which I think is just too expensive.

Handy device for jungle breeders
I don't have many plants at home but I want them to be healthy.Advices like "half a litre every two weeks" and "add some fertiliser every now and then" didn't seem right.6 different plants in 6 different pots have same needs ?? - not sure.So I bought this little device. It seems working correctly.Simply stick it in the pot next to the plant and read out values you want. There is memory function too and °C/°F display.I found out it's important to have perfect contact between soil and sensor surfaces.Ph sensing is somewhat uncertain in my opinion. So it's not easy to get correct measurements. You'll have to play with it a little bit. Moreover, manufacturer included a small piece of sandpaper so you can remove surface oxidation from the probes.Fits my purpose, but someone might find it unusable.BTW - it says in manuals NOT to measure humidity of water! Makes sense, right?
