DEWALT DCP580N XR Brushless 18V Li-ion Cordless Planer Body + DWV9390 Dust Bag

As I don't use electric planers often, I've always bought them on price alone - and never thought much of them.When my last one blew up and having bought a couple of DeWalt XR tools, I decided to bite the bullet and go for quality rather than price. And I'm so glad I did... this Dewalt DCP580N is a joy to use, nicely balanced, robust and gives very accurate results.I'm left handed and have always had issues with switch safety buttons and trailing cable. This machine addresses all of those problems and for the first time, I find planing timber a joy and not a chore. The only minor issue is that it struggles a little at maximum 2mm cut depth in hard wood - but lighter cuts easily resolves that. Spend the extra few quid, you won't regret it.

It's solid, does what you expect it to, easy to use, easy to replace blades, I don't quite understand the dial settings because it still cuts at 0, might have been worth reading the instructions.Used it for slimming some solid wood doors down today, drained the 5ah battery so make sure you're stocked if you hang doors for a living/plan on using this for a while. Nice straight edges, bit sharp if anything so bring something to sand it a bit softer. Fills the collection bag pretty quickly which is still better than it getting dumped on the floor. Very nice product from dewalt as always.Little bit pricey but it is the brushless model so should last a long time.

This planner is brilliant, very easy to use with adjustable levels , cordless makes it so flexible.

I had this to replace an old B&D corded planer. I found the Dewalt really easy to use, accurate and quieter. It planed solid oak flooring effortlessly. The chip collector bag is a must have. It saves a lot of mess in my workshop.

Among my tool kit are lots of manual wood planes from spokes shave to jack plane and all sizes in between. But my favourite is a Boach 14.4V battery plane. When I bout the DeWalt 18V clip-on style battery set of tools in 1999, there was no DeWalt plane in their catalogue. Hence bought half set of Bosch battery tools. Chose the Bosch 14.4V series as these tools are significant lighter.As the tool kit increased to now inc;ude DeWalt slide-in battery series, and that soon it will be impossible to buy replacement Bosch 14.4V vatteries, decided to get this DeWalt plane also. However, it is the Bosch plane which is my favourite. The DeWalt if too heavy for my liking (about 25% heavier) due to it being longer (see photo of the two planes parked sole-plate to sole-plate.). The Bosch is far easier to plane something in situ and that the waste shaving ejection could be directed to left or right instead of just the right hand side on the DeWalt. With the Dewalt you could set depth of cut to 2mm but I have never felt the need to shave 1mm let alone 2mm. However, the DeWalt sealed the deal as it came with a rebate fence. However, in the past I have tended to cut rebates with a router so guess I won't use this DeWalt until all the Bosch batteries have expired.

Fantastic, I have a couple of tools that use these batteries, so buying the bare unit without charger and batteries makes it a lot more economical. It planes well, and the dust/debris extraction is pretty good into the bag.

Bis jetzt war ich der Meinung DEWALT kommt aus Amerika. Auf diesen steht Made in China. Nun ja, das muß nicht schlechtes heißen. Ich stehe auf DEWALT, mal sehen. Bei der Bestellung gibt es was kurioses. Bestellung war bei ein Händler vor Ort geplant (wegen Unterstützung) der wollte 100,€ mehr. Jetzt wo ich weiß das Amerika auch in China produzieren läßt. Sollte ich vielleicht das nächste mal auf TEMU nachschauen und ausprobieren.
