North to Alaska!...
Alaska and the Canadian Northwest are still the journey of a lifetime for the enterprising traveler. That said, they are also far less developed for services than what travelers may be used to in the lower 48 states or along the Trans-Canadian Highway. Plan ahead for best results.Alaska and Northwest Canada offer the opportunity to experience the world as it was before urbanization. Wild animals still roam a landscape covered with forests, streams, lakes, mountains, tundra, and glaciers. It is possible to spends hours, days or weeks in the wild, with minimal contact with other humans. There are endless outdoor adventures involving fantastic hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, skiing, snow machining, dog sledding, fishing and hunting. Lots of species like bald eagles, bears, and wolves that are endangered in the lower 48 remain plentiful in Alaska. There is also far less tourist infrastructure than you typically find in the lower 48 states. You'll want the Milepost to find scarce gas stations, restaurants, stores and places to sleep with a roof over your head. Those facilities there tend to fill up quickly, especially in summer. Plan ahead to ensure a positive experience. The Milepost is that planning resource that most visitors and even locals need. The 2024 version of "The Milepost" is the 76th edition, proof of its utility, whether you're arriving by road, sea or air. The Milepost offers a mile-by-mile travelogue, updated annually, for the main roads, along with maps, diagrams of some key towns, photographs and advertisements for attractions, accommodations, and other travel facilities. It includes small delights that might not make it into other guidebooks, like scenic overlooks of glaciers, or places to book a fishing trip. It includes the basics for the Alaska Marine Ferry System, still a great way to see Southeast Alaska from the water and take your vehicle with you. And this book includes access to a digital version. Very highly recommended.

Very informative
If you are planning to make a trip to Alaska, and planning on driving a car, RV or pulling a trailer. You really need to include this book. You can plan on where to stop for food, fuel, lodging and sight seeing. It's extremely informative.

Very Informative
I am so glad I purchased The Milepost. I normally use an online trip planner, and found that their listed locations do not line up with The Milepost, so I made the adjustments.

I’m glad I had it…
I was a little disappointed with the maps in this directory. I did like the attraction articles but I really could have skipped this purchase for my trip.

A MUST for traveling to Alaska if taking a road trip
We have been to Alaska 4 times, renting an RV out of Anchorage. We have taken the MILEPOST with us every single time for guidance on where to get gas, rest stops, photographic opporunites, and frost heave locations or construction. It is updated every year, and there is ALWAYS new information to help you on your journey through the great big beautiful state of Alaska. We would not travel the roads up there without it. All the highways in Alaska are marked mile marker by milemarker....where to possibly see moose and bears, where pullouts are for free overnight camping, and even history tidbits and beautiful photos. It is an AMAZING resource and worth saving after your trip for memories. It's THAT good!

A “must have” for camping or RVing in Alaska 🏕️
I bought this for trip planning for our Alaska trip in August. It has extremely detailed info which is what I was looking for. I have travel guides also but we are renting an RV and this tells you where the gas stations are, where emergency services are, what areas of the highways to watch out for moose (to avoid accidents), where each and every turnout is, every campground and whether the campground roads are paved or gravel and whether they have showers, toilets, fire pits, etc. If you aren’t camping or renting an RV, this may be way too detailed for you but I am really happy I bought it, even though it was pricey. They update this every year so the info is the most up-to-date. You will want the travel guides for sightseeing info and Trip Advisor is great for hotel, restaurant and tour recommendations but this is the guide to have if you are driving.
