A Passion for Flowers in 3-D Peyote Stitch

It's not everyday someone makes an entire pattern book of your flower garden, but that's exactly what this book is to me.Here's my long overdue review of a most wonderful book:What makes this book great? Firstly, you will find no other book with such unique and thorough varieties of flowers in a single collection with beadwoven patterns. All the patterns are beadwoven (meaning there are no french wire beading used, hooray). A needle, thread and beads are how these projects are made. This is a complete rainbow of beaded flowers.The flowers are very accurate. Some of my personal favorites are the nasturtium and sea shell cosmos flower patterns, they really look exactly like the real flowers! Amazing!The instructions are clear and easy to follow. Everything is explained, graphed and described well. This will be an asset to any beaders library of patterns.Lastly, this book really is my garden. The year this book of patterns came out, I had to move and leave behind my twelve organic gardens all started from seed. As I prepared and gathered seeds to take with me, I bought this lovely book. It was a great comfort to know that if I couldn't exactly recreate my gardens by seed, I could definitely bead one! Thank you so much!

Such beautiful flowers! I haven't made these yet, but I'm gathering the materials I need to make these at a bead retreat. The patterns all look very clear and doable if you're comfortable with peyote stitch (flat and tubular). And the beads needed are mostly 11s and 15s, with just a few size 11 Delicas. Most of the colors needed are Miyuki Duracoat opaque colors (in the 4400 range), and are used in more than one pattern. You will also need wire for the stems and parts of certain flowers, in 18, 22, 24 and 26 gauge. I will probably substitute some of the colors, as I want to make some fantasy flowers with metallic and AB finishes.

This book was purchased for the columbines. As you can see they did turn out. However, the instructions had mistakes and did not have consistency in the writing. For example only picture was given for the spedal. I had to translate the instructions to a format I could understand. I have started the passion flower. There are mistakes in that pattern as well. It has errors that took me sometime to figure out. I should have seen the issues earlier. But I kept thinking it was me not the pattern.The flowers are nice. But honestly it should be redone to remove mistakes and be written using consistent formatting. The book does give a disclaimer that you should know what you are doing, but that does not excuse the mistakes.The designs are clever. There is enough information to figure out what to do if you have enough experience to know when to give up on the wrong information and rewrite. I am not a great beader, but I was able to figure it out.

I have a big interest in 3-d bead work and this book is perfect for that!

If you don’t have much beading experience this book will not be much help. The first flower I wanted to make started with “circular ladder” stitch. I have been doing off-loom beading for a long time and had never come across this stitch. I went to YouTube for instructions and was unable to find anything. I also couldn’t find any tutorials when I searched the internet. I did make the center of the flower using circular ladder but haven’t been really happy with the was it turned out. However, I have to add that I like precise instructions and this book does not have them. I’m muddling through the aster but have started over three times and all I’ve done is the base and half the petals. I’m hopeful the rest of the aster goes better. If it does I’ll edit my review.

Superb, well written, many choices. Flower Beading Dream. Many patterns. Novice beaders to experts will benefit from this well written publication.

Great book! Got this for my mom who makes really nice professional pieces & she loves it. The pieces in the pic are not from the book but they were made by my mom so, I thought an example of her work would show that if she likes the book it must be good!😍😍
