Read the instructions very carefully
Great little remote. Works flawlessly with my Genie Pro 88 opener. The trick is that if you have a 9-dip-switch remote, you skip the first three switches. That's a bit counter-intuitive.It was a pleasant bonus surprise that the instructions were written in perfect English.

Great garage door/gate opener
Great gate/garage door opener. Small enough to keep in pocket yet powerful. This is my second as I stepped on first one. It's still works, but had to tape it together so will use as backup. Purchased a new one and will try to be a little bit more careful.

Best keychain remote for older garage doors
UPDATE 9/26/10After eight months of use, one major issue has arisen that drops the 390 from five stars to four. Apparently, there have been several instances when I have hit the remote's button by accident when moving my keys in or out of my pocket. Given that my apartment is well within the 30-foot range of the 390, it possible this could have happened even while I was indoors. Sharp-eyed neighbors have pointed out on three separate occasions that my garage door is open late at night. Fortunately, nothing has been stolen, but I don't expect to be so lucky forever. With much sadness, I have removed the 390 from my keychain. Its convenience is not worth the risk. Those with lighter fingers, however, should still give the 390 a try. As for me, my hope is that Carper might one day release a new version with a power or lock switch, so that the 390 can once again rate five stars.ORIGINAL REVIEW 1/30/10If a garage door opener was made more than 10 to 15 years ago, chances are that it won't work with most modern remotes. Since 1995 or so, major manufacturers switched from dip switch codes on their products to computer codes that could be randomly generated for each remote (e.g. Genie's Intellicode). Great for heightened security, lousy for backwards compatibility. The Carper 390 is one of the few remotes that still works with 9 or 12-dip switch systems, and it is certainly the smallest. Comparable in size and thickness to a car door remote, the Carper 390 has a range of at least 30 feet in any direction. The 390 comes with a 12-volt alkaline a23 battery , so it is good to go once you remove the remote's cover and set the dip-switch code. The interior markings don't match the one in the tiny user's pamphlet, so be aware that the mode switch should be set up for 9-pin codes and down for 12-pin codes. If using a 9-pin code, ignore the first three switches when entering the code (i.e. switch 4 should be treated as switch 1 and so on). While it excels in operation, the 390 feels a bit flimsy in its construction. Its capacity for abuse is unknown, but it certainly doesn't feel as sturdy as the car remotes it emulates. A little extra care should be taken when throwing keys down on a table or surrendering them to a valet. This also holds true with the key chain, which is bound to the 390 by a small hole in the remote's lower right corner. The remote's body is at its thinnest here and would probably yield to a couple of good yanks. This assumption is borne out by the deep scratches left in the plastic when manhandling the key chain clasp into the hole. The clasp is too long to close without scraping it across the remote's surface, but the upside is that there is very little chance that the clasp will come unhooked once fitted into place. Make sure to open the body, set the dip switches, and test the remote before attaching the key chain so that it will be gouged as little as possible. The key chain is two to three inches in length, which may be too long for those who want to comfortably attach the remote to another key ring. The hole in the remote itself is much too small for a standard key ring, so one solution is to use the smaller of the two rings on the key chain--the one just beneath the clasp--as the attachment point for the second key ring. The 390 also comes with a small LED light, but its low power limits its usefulness. It is also sickly green in color, a strange choice that gives all things illuminated in its very short range the look of Kermit at midnight. But concerns about long-term durability and poor lighting fall away when confronted with the simple truth that the Carper 390 does the job it was built to do in a form factor much smaller than competing products (such as the Genie MAT90 , a.k.a. the Genie MAT90-BL ). If springing for a new garage door opener is out of the question and size is the paramount concern, the Carper 390 is the remote to beat.

Carper 390 Key Chain Garage Door Opener Remote
I know this is very good product because my neighbor lent me hers. However, when I received the opener it did not include a battery and so is impossible to operate. I had to purchase the larger version from a local person who came out and set the door to open. Since the garage man was unable to install a battery, I must return to Carper 390 and plan to do so this week. I tried. I wish it had a battery to begin with.

The only option for an older door.
The reception is spotty for me, but it is small and tends to work overall.

Still working After 4 years and 1 cycle in the Washing Machine
I had this for 4 years now and still works great. Good rangewith the sensor too. 3 years ago I accidentally left it in myshorts and it went through a complete cycle in the washing machine.I dismantle it and clean and dry it with a hair dryer. Voila! it isas good as new. Going to buy another soon since I go about the housea lot more.

Door switch may be broken, but stuck with non-working device cos after 30 days
We first tried to match this device to my wife's garage opener. Several tries, but didn't work after any of them.Didn't give up right away, cos I really hoped I could make it work. Went to a wedding, then on vacation. Today (Memorial Day), I tried to match to my opener - still didn't work. While the illuminating light works properly, I think the door switch may have a problem: When I first tried door opening last month, the red door light didn't come on at all when I pressed the door switch. Today, the situation was the same at first, but eventually the red light started coming on consistently; unfortunately, though, the door does not operate in response. (Our existing openers in our cars work fine. This was to be a spare.)Also unfortunately, I went beyond 30 days because I wanted to try to match to the second opener, rather than returning the device right away, but my schedule was busy. So I guess I will put the device on a shelf, for now, and hope for a miracle down the road. Fortunately, it's not too expensive, so I'm not out a lot of money.
