Batman the Brave and the Bold: The Winning Card

Tom king being tom king
A dark (like seriously very dark), non canon, retelling of the first time bats met joker. Tom and team fleshed out what was a very short story to create a book thats well worth a read. The art by mitch gerads is truly stunning with some funny call backs from bat history. I will say thatIif you hate Tom kings batman then you will hate this book.Pros;Art work stunning.A well written story with an interesting albeit dark interpretation of a past story.Very Tom King. The joker is written as a threat for once.Cons;Very dark (personally not an issue to me but the joker does things that would be too much for some)Very Tom king (for reasons I still don't get some folk hate kings batman)It's rather short.

exciting and visceral
As always with Tom King the storytelling is great and brutal. The artwork is visceral and realistic not cartoonishly drawn or inked. Brilliantly thought out, well executed and exciting to have bravery and bold new versions of old tales.

Amazing
Joker was truly scary in this brilliant short self contained story. The art was also haunting which added to the brilliance of book.

Really really vivid and visceral at times. Laking in story but made up for in the drawings and viole
Very good. Again not much in the way of a story but that's true to the retelling in a way. There is no story yet of batman and joker. So it's not him following clues or this and that and gag tricks. It's jokers first rampage as joker making no sense until batman kinda sees one and the story unfolds to the main event with PLENTY of great joker moments in between. I mean some funny but MOST ARE DISTURBING, how he sometimes says nothing, sometimes says alot. It's creepy, disturbing and all the right things about the joker especially before he became more gimmicky. So this is just an insane man going at it like a nut but not with all the lore and nonsense. Just disturbing violence, plenty of victims and a whole lotta blood and bad jokes. Really enjoyed this, the art and colors, drawings and dialogue I loved. Loved the way jokers dialogue looks like an old silent movie. It just all works, short but worth it. And tom king continues to show me his greatness and is making my list of one one of the best to do this comic book thing ever.

Not bad, not great
I pretty much liked it. The art is great. Dialogues are a bit boresome, the parts when Bruce cusses a lot , are not like him. I also agree with another critic that that the Joker dialogues in mute genre cinema are weird. At first original, but used too long during the book and we quickly get tired of them. The art is great.

Amazing art, story feels lazy
Art is some of the best I’ve seen in a Batman story and the joker is terrifying. But imo the writing feels clunky at multiple moments. Joker is seemingly superhuman for no reason, jumping out of third story windows and surviving absurdly violent car crashes. Meanwhile Batman does a bunch of stupid nonsense and gets himself beat half to death for no reason. Resolution also feels rushed and cliche. But, the writing style is phenomenal. Joker specifically stands out. His jokes are well written. And the art carries it enough that I’d still say it’s worth a read.

Twisted and perfect
A great retelling of Batman and Jokers first real tangle! This is the joker we love! He’s dark he’s dangerous and he’s smart as hell! That’s why he’s so complimentary to Batman! It’s just as methodical as Bats but with no rules that tie him. And this gives us that glimpse. Fantastic!
