Quite pleased with almost all aspects of this pergola
I may update this review over time to report how the pergola handles weather.I bought the 10' x 13' louvered pergola with open/closable slat roof. I paid $2,099 plus $300 shipping plus tax in September, 2024.The pergola was delivered to my driveway in 5 separate boxes by FedEx. One box, box 2, was delivered a day later than the others. That one had the instructions in it, by the way. There was no real damage to any parts that I noticed. There is a very slight dent in one part, but it didn't break the finish coat and I put it in an area that isn't seen. The boxes are heavy....ranging from around 58 pounds to around 75 pounds.I think this is a great pergola for the price. It's anodized aluminum, which is lightweight and strong and won't rust. The posts are at least 4" square, it seems, and are more solid than I expected. The whole thing seems quite solid and sturdy when put together. While this color is called 'gray', it nearly perfectly matches my black aluminum deck railing. So I'm calling this 'black'.The instructions are much better than I expected. After reading other reviews for this and other pergolas from Purple Leaf, I'm wondering whether they got a technical writer to re-write this instruction manual. It's _really_ good. Full color, something over 20 pages on large paper. Part numbers are listed on parts even on later diagrams, which helps in getting one's bearings. There was one error that I noticed, which was that the screw for part Cb (I think) wasn't listed on the instructions. (I did figure it out, but it took a while to be certain.) It took me around 10 hours to build this, but I'm kinda handicapped and had to stop a lot. My wife helped with a few parts that required two people. There were a few extra of various screws/bolts.No, this pergola is not perfect. But I gave it 5 stars because I think it is a great deal for the price. I'd say my biggest criticism is that the screws which are used to hold the slats are philips-head and tend to cam out when trying to screw them in. (It's a tricky maneuver because the slats want to move while you're screwint them on.) Robertson (square) head, hex or torx (best) would be nice. I should note that all the bolts are hex head, and I had no trouble with any of the. Most of the assembly is held together with bolts.

Classy, sturdy, and functional!
Hurray for Purple Leaf! 9 boxes with parts for our PURPLE LEAF Louvered Pergola (12' x 20') arrived together on time. Great customer service (checked twice to make sure our delivery was complete and undamaged). This pergola had a complete assembly instructions manual and took time to assemble, but was fairly basic to put together. The pergola's dark gray matte color looks classy and modern, the louvers open/close easily, and the anodized steel should weather well. My husband works remotely, and this pergola is his new go-to office. Thank you Purple Leaf for a great product!

Solid Pergola, with some caveats
I'm one of this people who research everything to the nth degree before a purchase. In my search for the perfect pergola, I found they varies in price greatly. You can spend $1500 to well over $15K. I decided on this particular brand because they had a lot of reviews and they responded to presale inquiries in a timely manner. Since I live in Southern California, I didn't have to worry hurricanes or snow loadDelivery - This package came in 5 boxes and was delivered in 2 days. There was no damage to the boxes, but there were a few bent pieces that didn't really bother me.Installation - I'm not particularly handy, but this took me and one other person about 6 hours to install. The instructions were not great, but it's fairly obvious is you're doing something wrong.Quality - this thing feels very solid and the louvers are all quite nice to open and close. The 11'x14' unit I purchased does not come with curtains, and Purple Leaf will not sell you accessories after the fact, but this was generally easy to work around.Caveats - There is no easy way to hang lights on the pergola without drilling, and nothing sticky will stay stuck very long, we ended up using zip ties to make things work. Lastly, this pergola is not waterproof. The middle beam is two pieces and during the last rain storm, water was leaking out of the seam like it was a rain gutter. This was disappointing as we thought we'd have respite from the rain under this pergola. We have tightened the screws, filled the seams with loctite, and wrapped it with water proof gorilla tape. Hopefully this fixes the issue, we won't know until the next rain comes, which could be awhile in Southern California.Overall for the price, the unit looks really good, is very solidly constructed and with after market rails and curtains we are pretty satisfied with the purchase. Minus 1 star for having the middle beam act as a rain gutter without being water proof.EDIT. We raised on side of the pergola with bricks to give it a slight slope and taped/caulked the center beam seam, now this pergola no longer leaks. 5 star project. I wish there was a way to mount things in the center beam like a project or fan. Otherwise it's a very solid purchase

Nice addition to back yard
The media could not be loaded. I am overall satisfied with my pergola. It was delivered in several boxes. One of the boxes was open and I was skeptical as to whether everything was included. The seller was responsive and sent what was missing. It took several tries to get someone to put it together. I am not a contractor but the instructions look very difficult and I believe some installers were intimidated. In the end I hired Assemblers Inc., who assembles Purpleleaf products, and one person put the Pergola together within 4 hours for a reasonable price. The roof, which opens and closes, is a perfect addition to regulate shade. The pieces look heavy but are not, they are aluminum with a galvanized steel overlay. I get a lot of wind in my backyard and the pergola holds up in high winds, so far very sturdy.Update: still sturdy and beautiful.. no regrets.
