Little Changes

Want to give it more than five measly stars
Bought this book for my grandson who was only just six at the time. He found it interesting, and was happy to listen to the story and look at the pictures, and I thought that that was that. Nice little book, filled in a brief amount of time.As people with six year olds will know, they start to learn a lot, and very quickly. So eight months later his school introduced Charles Darwin as one of the scientists from history. So naturally grandson was asking about him (among other things) and I told him what Darwin was famous for and talked about evolution. After a tsunami of questions I showed him a poster of the Tree of Life, and as best I could (to somebody who's still six years old) pointed out how things branch, and how branching produces different species. To my utter surprise, he had no problem accepting it. I asked him how he knew and he said "Because that's what happened to the Rinkidinks".So from being OK with "Little Changes", and thinking that it was OK for the price, and a nice story, I'm now a "Little Changes" evangelist.Just buy this book for every young child that you know. Apparently they take it in even if they don't understand it, and it pops up when it's more relevant to what they're learning.About to buy it again now for my four year old granddaughter.

This was fabulous, clearly explaining the principles of evolution in a fun and accurate way for even quite small children to understand. The only thing is, I felt it was potentially a little confusing for children who do not live with their birth parents (such as those in adoptive families) where I think an explanation of similarities between people in general as well as those closely related would have been more inclusive. I mean, we are all of us related if you go far enough back anyway, and share many traits. All in all, a brilliant book dealing with a subject which is fascinating but seldom tackled in a children's book, even though an understanding of evolution underpins everything we know about biology and.

Enjoyable Evolution!
I bought this for my 7 year old and he loves it. (and so does his 4 year old sister). It introduces a fundamental biological concept simply without any big words. The language is easy and readable and the pictures are well drawn and attractive to the eye. There is a compelling story and the kids never seem distracted when I read it.And, even after a couple of months, it still gets pulled out and read every few weeks, so highly recommended!

This is one of the best books I ever bought to my daughter
This is one of the best books I ever bought to my daughter. Through a really interesting story, it precisely describes the real magic that ever happened and is still happening in this planet: evolution. This is a PROPER educational book! The downside is its poor editing. I mean the illustrations are awesome but the text formatting (fonts, spacing, layout, etc) could be done in a more professional way.

A really good way to start explaining evolution to a child
A really good way to start explaining evolution to a child, a few words in there i had to explain as it is a little difficult for a 5 yr old, other than that, it is much loved, and the class liked it too.

Three Stars
It's great that stories like this exist but it's a shame that the rhyming is so bad in places...

that beautifully presents the mechanism of speciation
A cute story, full of rhymes, that beautifully presents the mechanism of speciation. Combine with a bit of discussion, and a trip to the natural history museum. Got my four-year-old's cogs whirring.

Nice description of evolution
Nice description of evolution! Bit long for my 4 and 5 year old but they follow it easily enough.
