Your Silence Will Not Protect You Essays

So I saw someone say their copy came in damaged- and they actually meant that it comes damaged and I thought I’d be special enough for this to NOT happen too, but I guess I was just being hopeful and stupid lol. I haven’t read the book yet, but the pages are nice and soft and the cover is smooth. All pages are neat and straight and they aren’t damaged, only that top corner is, but I think it gives my copy a little personality.KEEP IN MIND THAT I HAVEN’T READ THE STORY-So I’m giving the book a 4 stars because the quality is still nice and is pleasing on my hands.

A beautiful new collection of Audre Lorde's essays, speeches and poems gathered together for the first time a British publisher has brought together Audre Lorde’s essentials in one volume.I purchased it because it is just a beautiful book and it's worth it to continue to support Lorde being published everywhere by everyone, but especially by other black or marginalized female editors, publishers, writers...The volume itself is just beautiful, and I will cherish it. This I know.

This book is worth owning, keeping, and giving to friends. It inspires my life!

very thoughtful but not very interesting book

Beautiful book, lovely card cover, uncrowded, appealing presentation, thick paper. A mix of a few poems, including “Sister Outsider” and some famous essays, including “poetry is not a luxury”, “the uses of anger...” & “uses of the erotic...”Even the prose is poetic and the words consist of uncommon wisdom.Buy one for you and one for a friend.

Because it's a collection of essays, the message can be a bit repetitive at times, as the essays are all on the same subject: racism and sexism in the USA, by the same author; but maybe that's what we need in order to absorb the message.The difficult truth is that the lessons haven't been learned, in all the years since Audre Lorde wrote these essays, full of anger and frustration. Well worth reading.

It wasn't eye opening for me as I'm a very open and deep thinking person, so I wasn't often caught off guard. However there were some amazing quotes in this book and I enjoyed a few of the poems. I am touched at the life the author led and this was the first book I read on black feminism. I am now interested in learning more. This is both an autobiography and poetry book, it is in my opinion a good window into black feminism and I definitely think it should be read.
