Zyxel 10-Port Gigabit Unmanged PoE+ Switch [8-Ports with 130 watt Budget] - Fanless Design [GS1100-10HP-GB0101F]

I bought this switch to replace a Netgear GS108 which had all ports filled and I needed one more connection. I did not need the managed capabilities so I plumped for this Zyxel GS1100-16. I've had previous experience with bigger Zyxel switches in an office environment and found the brand to be well built and reliable.This GS1100-16 switch is very good indeed. Works well, is compact and energy efficient: It runs slightly warm (as opposed to the Netgear which ran very warm). I measured its power consumption when idle at 2.5 Watts, rising to 4.5 Watts with 8 active connections. Being fanless it is totally silent, and the inbuilt power supply means that it plugs in with an ordinary plug and there is no bulky power plug to worry about.I note that it came with brackets to attack it to a standard networking rack, should you desire.

I ran out of ports on my 8-port ZyXEL desktop gigabit switch so I had to look for a replacement - which meant finding a 16-port desktop switch. Daisy chaining another 8-port switch to the first would have been much cheaper but would have used an extra power socket, and more importantly would not offer the same capability (all 7 sockets on the second switch would have to share the one gigabit link between the switches).On paper most of the 16-port switches have very similar specs, but the ZyXEL was the most compact I could find (and in my opinion was the best looking). The box it came in felt quite heavy but that was because in addition to the switch itself, the box contains metal brackets that allow you to rack-mount the switch if required. Similarly the switch itself seems quite heavy until you realise that's because its power supply is internal, and there is no power brick just a standard "kettle" power lead.So far it has worked faultlessly and I am very pleased with it. The only thing I would have liked was for the LAN sockets to be on the back of the switch rather than the front for neatness, but all the 16-port desktop switches I could find were the same so it's just something you have to live with once you go beyond an 8-port switch.

So far so good. Arrived in a solid packaging, no dents or scratches. Easy installation, worked immediately. With ECO button on, I did not experience any network issue so I keep it on. LEDs are not extremely bright so would be perfect for desktop use too.What I like:-compact design.-perfect fit for 10" racks.-low heat dissipation.-metal sockets.-eco button.-integrated power supply, no external power adaptor which helps to keep the cabinet tidy.What I don't like:-For a 10" switch they pack 19" rack mounts. Angle grinder and driller solved the problem but still...-Does not show which line is 10Mb/s, 100Mb/s or 1Gb/s, all LEDs are green only.-manual not included.

Bought to replace old Ethernet camera switch of the same make, which had lost power on some channels over the last 6-7 years (there were other problems along the line including water filled junction boxes and I don’t think the old box would have broken if those problems hadn’t occurred - so don’t be put off). Has plenty of power for all the cameras we have plugged into it.

I bought this 16 port unit, ZXEL GS1100-16, to replace my previous 8 port ZyXEL switch, as I needed another connection in my home office!It works perfectly for me, hence the five star review. I've noticed no performance degradation with this new unit, and no freezing at all.As a bonus this unit comes with the parts to either rack mount it, wall mount it or simply sit it on your desk. I put the four little round rubber stickers on to sit it on my desk. Switched it on and job done!

Good quality construction, easy to use, in-built power adapter is a good feature, no external power brick to store, comes with feet for desk use or rack mounting parts, plug in the networking cables and turn on the power (there are 2 power switches, one from the power socket and one to turn on/off the actual unit.) and it works well.

Excellent Ethernet switch. Unboxed it, plugged it in, connected a patch cable to the router and 14 outgoing cables to various points around the house and boom! Max internet speed in every room.Couldn’t have been easier.Very pleased with this.

Having had major problems with tp link products in the recent past- both had to be returned having failed within weeks, really pleased that zyxel have come up trumps.
