Easy to read and full of important facts for a dog owner!
I was excited to see this book published. Dr Chris Little, prior to his retirement, was my dogs vet and he got him through a real roller coaster ride with his Addisons Disease. I was about to get another new pup and wanted to ensure I got everything correct. The book helped me make the right choice and understand the risks etc of adopting an imported puppy, how to introduce the new addition to the family etc, selecting the right insurance, (having made a very expensive mistake last time). Having had dogs for most of my life, I thought I knew it all, but wanted to double check. A few chapters in, I realised how much I didn’t really know in sufficient detail? Because the book is written in such an easy to understand way, it leads you to really think deeper into understanding everything about dog ownership.

Books vets wish their clients had read.
Current, factually and clinically informative. Dispells some of the myths and downright untruths regarding dog health and the veterinary profession. Should be required reading for all current and would be dog owners.

This book is definitely worth a read.
Dog & Bone's book review: The Dog Care HandbookThis book is easy to read, handy to refer to, and would be a welcome addition to any dog owner’s book case. With clearly laid out chapters, the reader can either choose to read the book from cover to cover, or dip in and out as they require. Personal anecdotes from Chris, the author, maintain engagement with the chapter topics. This book is full of accessible information, while maintaining the solid evidence base expected of a veterinary professional.Practical tips for common ailments, such as vomiting and diarrhoea, are provided. Sections on first aid and nursing your dog at home provide practical tips that may save you a trip or 2 to the vet. Chronic conditions and old age are discussed with sensitivity. The FAQ to finish provides even more useful information not already addressed. After reading this book any dog owner will be more informed about all aspects of general care for their dog, and will be prepared thoroughly for any trips to the vet they do have to make. This book is definitely worth a read.

An excellent reference book for dog owners
The book is very well set out , informative and accessible. I refer to the Dog Care Handbook whenever I am concerned about my middle aged, miniature schnauzer. I have recommended it to my dog owner friends.

A Must Have for Dog Owners
This was bought by my husband for me. We are both vets!I have recommended this book on several dog social media groups that I am on as a great up to date reference for dog owners. The book is written in an easy to read style and covers almost all the questions you might forget to ask your vet, and the things your vet did tell you but you instantly forgot becausethe vet visit was a bit stressful for you! I haven't found anything on the bulbous gland and boy dog nipples though... maybe they will be in the second edition! This book is based on years of experience, but is also fully referenced for anyone who really wants to interrogate the science.Definitely one of the better dog health books out there at the moment.

Informative and really useful for either wannabe or dog parents
I think every dog owner would benefit from having this book at home!I always considered myself a seasoned dog parent as I had dogs all my life and several at the same time; in fact, when I was born my family already owned a dog, so I always (and still do) consider them a normal part of my life. This is to say that I thought my knowledge of anything related to dogs was pretty extensive. Well, after reading this book I can say I was wrong!I found it extremely informative and helpful, and I'm sure I can already see myself turning to this book before messaging or calling my vet in an agitated state. For example, I could have easily saved myself a lot of money when I went to the vet with my newly rescue dog, only to be told that she had kennel cough and no medicine was needed!I also found the structure of the book very logical and easy to follow, but also convenient to find what you need as and when. The anecdotes and real cases help the reader put all in perspective and convert words into facts.I do think anyone with a dog or wanting to be a dog owner will find this book really beneficial, and I especially loved the part on how to choose a dog, explaining in detail and backed by science why "pure breeds" are not healthy in general, but in particular some trendy breeds should not be picked at all. I'm a fan of crossbreeds, especially because I'd never buy a dog or any animal really. Now go on and buy the book, you'll thank me later. Thanks to the author, 5m Books and Literally PR for the opportunity to read it and this is my honest opinion.

Great for any dog owner
As a dog parent and have been for over a decade. My knowledge of every dog related I thought was ample. Reading this book, I found it very helpful, especially with help regarding the care for my dog, leading not to have to go to the vets. Cost effective and a must-have for any dog or would be dog owner.
