And So It Goes / C'est Pas Si Simple

An entertaining, moving and well acted romantic comedy
Rob Reiner - even though he's feeble-minded and tastelessly militant when it comes to politics, I have to say that he is an extremely talented director and producer of great films. This film is terrific to watch. And how can you go wrong with Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton? Everything about this movie was funny and witty in an intelligent way. Very entertaining. The character of the little girl was a bit unusual, even slightly unbelievable, but it didn't hurt the plot or the movie. Recommended if you want a high quality, enjoyable movie to watch that isn't "woke" or politically correct to the point of nausea as so many films are recently. As So it Goes was 2014, so I guess it escaped that Holy Weird thrust. I'm pretty sure if this screenplay were made today, especially with RR directing, it might be hard to take.

Family fun
This movie had me cringing, laughing and crying. Loved the dynamics of all the Shanghai La residents. Sometimes your family is not necessarily your relatives. I loved the young actors in this film. I’d watch it again.

Surprisingly amazing
I was kinda expecting something different and afraid they might try to bring in some kind of political tripe but got surprised with something far more emotional than I expected. I even cried a few times. Geez.....Great movie.

Closing One Chapter
A fantastic cast that gels nicely together make up this romantic comedy and drama. It is a movie that emphasizes taking a mature approach to life and shows how, hopefully, we have come to accept and resolve our usually turbulent pasts. This movie was overall wholesome to watch. It's a good movie without all the negative aspects that movies these days tend to have.

If you're a cold-hearted cynic and full of yourself, don't watch
This was a very entertaining, funny, feel-good movie. The acting was great, the script was great, and it was made well enough to enjoy very much and walk away with joy in your heart. Watch to enjoy, not to puff yourself up on some mission to destroy.

Feels Good And It Works
And So It Goes isn't Director Rob Reiner's or stars Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton's greatest film but it is touching and warm and great to see a movie that regards a view of things through a mature, experienced lense of life where hopefully we've learned to reconcile and accept our often messy pasts.

Good for when you have an hour-and-a half to kill
What could go wrong with a rom-com directed by Rob Reiner and starring two A-list actors: Diane Keaton and Michael Douglas?Well, the script, for starters. This is an uninspiring remake of every boy-meets-girl, boy-chases-girl, boy-wins-girl, feel-good story ever told.A cynical and surly widower, played by Michael Douglas, becomes attracted to the widow next door, played by Annie Hall, excuse me, Diane Keaton, a bubbly but occasionally weepy lounge singer still grieving her husband’s death. Throw in a stray dog, a homeless ten-year-old girl, and an estranged son, a recovering heroin user, and there you have it: an hour and a half of predictable back-and-forth banter with a totally predictable conclusion.Sadly, Eugene, the dead husband, spoken of frequently and appearing via a photograph, and Sarah Beth, the dead wife, appearing as a tombstone shown numerous times, were more interesting than the living characters, with the exception of the estranged son, played by Scott Shepherd, and a homebuyer, played by Paloma Guzman, who added a glimmer of hope to an otherwise bleak story.I give this film 3 Yawns but applaud its focus on the over-60 crowd, and its suggestion that life can begin anew for people of all ages, including homeless children, recovering addicts, widows, widowers, and, of course, stray dogs.

Didn't live up to my expectations.
Watchable. But not rewatchable. I had high expectations for a Diane Keaton movie, but this is the second one I've seen recently that doesn't meet expectations. Yet another American movie with a redemption theme. It tries to convince us that Orin's character is flawed because of the unhappiness he felt after his wife's death. Then, hey presto, changed into a human being because of a child and the lady next door. I 'm only surprised that there was no mention of god or prayers. I guess when great comedic actresses get old they are only presented with largely substandard plots to choose from. Disappointing, but hey, I've seen worse.

Douglas as modern day Scrooge gets to understand and fall in love with Diane Keaton as Diane Keaton.
Unlovable, cantankerous and wholly curmudgeonly Douglas develops a rapport and better understanding of his somewhat emotionally flaky next door neighbour. Will love blossom? Another film where a child introduces the catalytic element to understanding where there has previously been a lack in generosity of spirit. It's doesn't break new ground, but the whole film is charming and there are some opportunities for Douglas to explore the Scrooge within and Diane Keaton to explore Diane Keaton, again!

Ça marche comme ça
Pour mon usage personnel. J'ai adoré ce film surtout à cause des 2 acteurs connus.
