Patternmaking for Fashion Design

Masterpiece
I was blown away by the clear and comprehensive information in this book. It's nothing short of a masterpiece. I purchased this edition instead of the current edition for the chapter on dart manipulation, contouring, added fullnesss, etc., and for the chapter on problems and solutions. Both sections are filled with useful information. For some reson, these chapters were omitted from the more recent edition. The book covers everything else in exacting detail. One caveat is that many new fabrics have been developed since this edition was written; and therefore, the book can't be expected to cover those fabrics or how they might impact pattern design. For anyone going in to pattern making completely cold: a little background in clothing construction or sewing is enormously helpful in understanding this book. If anyone is considering this book and they have no background in either of these areas, I would highly recommend taking a class to help make sense of it all.

Best book for pattern making
I've got all the editions of this Pattern Making text but this edition is by far my favourite. It maybe an older text but it has all that a beginner wants to know in it and seem to me, IMHO, better than the latest edition (which I have also). I bought this book for a friend I'm teaching to patternake and she is really pleased with it and has read it from cover to cover. I appogised in advance for the books retro drawings and old fashioned styling but she thought it was really up to date as fashion is at present doing the return to this sort of fashion. Helen Joseph Armstrong is a wonderful writer and even thought her books are in Imperial measures they are still worth thier weight in gold.

Handsdown, Best Patternmaking Book
This is the second copy of this excellent Patternmaking manual that I have bought. As a professional patternmaker, I have a copy at my desk at work and my new copy at home. I call it the Bible and should I be stumped on something or if I want to study an approach before creation begins, I go back and refer to Armstrong's advice.Referring to this book is not mandatory but strongly advised to anyone who wants to make clothing, not just by myself, but by countless patternmaking professionals, including my boss, who is the Senior Patternmaker on the BCBG Runway First Patterns team.I've noticed that the newer and older editions contain slightly different projects/styles, but the pragmatic approach is the same.I cannot recommend this book enough.

Best book Seller, Best Service
So the book is the book. If you know enough to drop the cost of entry, you know what you’re getting.Let me talk about the book’s seller, bookhunter188.My book came in it’s original packaging, important. On top of that, they triple packaged it with plenty of padding to make sure nothing short of a nuclear bomb could damage it. They really care about getting their clients their merchandise in top condition. The price was competitive and they shipped fast. I was impressed. If you see them as a purchasing option, trust me, pick them!

Awesome book- Material to read is a bit too dry
Using this book to teach myself pattern making for clothes as a newbie. However, reading material is very dry and may put you to sleep. The information is all there so don't lose focus. This book is for intermediate to advance students and professionals. I would suggest reading first "pattern cutting" by dennic chunman as an appropriate introduction book.It is first necessary to be able to visualize the 2 dimensional front and back bodice on the human form with its measurements and why.The answer to the question "Why" begets much understanding. When you are finished with most of your questions being answered you can then go to this book.Without a teacher in a class room setting it is hard slogging. Everything needs to be read at least 3 times before things sink in . It is a great book but not for the faint of hearted.

Ideal Book for the Seamstress in Business or Hobby
I bought this book for my seamstress sister who had seen a copy in an out-of-town library and had been very impressed by it. I was happy at how soon it arrived from the seller, Monarchy Books, NY, and by how its condition was precisely as had been described by them. My sister felt spoiled by choice, at the many different versions of the book that you had available, but the various recommendations of your buyers reduced the choice down to this first edition - and she is very happy with what she has received. Excellent book and shipping - I can highly recommend.

Perfect book, literally has anything and everything I'd need ...
Perfect book, literally has anything and everything I'd need to look up for any project. Very informative and well illustrated. The fact that it's dated is irrelevant because it's the techniques you're learning to later apply to your own work. Very, VERY happy with this book!
