This is personal more to me as this is where I now have family.
This is hard to grasp as it is set early 1900's. Everything is so built up and totally different there now. It is a study in the steel rod that is inside all of us if we choose to use it. Very uplifting. I would highly recommend.

I was hooked
I love storm stories and historical fiction, so this one looked good. Long review made short, it was GREAT. I loved the strong main character and the survival story—-kind of like “Hatchet” meets “The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek.” I was reading long into the night like a little kid!

so good, hard to put it down
This was a fulfilling read that made my heart sing. Hard to imagine what they went through, yet they persevered. Family is everything.

Terrific read
Well written. I could feel their pain. Loved this book! This would make a great movie. Most people couldn't survive what this Family endured.

Hope Renewed
The struggles and heartache of this mountain family touched me. It is a good reminder to look to the future trusting that we can become stronger, better people because of life’s challenges.

The narrative drew me in...
I really enjoyed this book. The author was able to draw me in with the narrative of the main character. Her use of the dialect that people living in the area at the time was well written while still maintaining a sense of authenticity. The characters are all well flashed out and written with real emotions and are very real in their own flawed way. Would highly recommend this book.

Good book
I enjoyed the last half of this book but not the first half. I found it slow and repetitive. The characters are well developed but the ending was wrapped up quickly and predictable. All in all, not a bad book but not one of the best ones that I have read.
