Incredible! Extending Wireless Networks is CRAZY Easy!
I have a large 1 story home and in some corners Wifi would drop. I wanted better coverage inside and to be able to extend to the patio and deck. I have tried several cheap repeaters and they were a nightmare and didn't work.I researched Open Mesh and found that as of this writing (4-5-2014) they have 3 different products:OM2P-HS: This is the fastest and what I ordered. It was about $75. It gets 300mbps and has 2 BUILT IN antennasOM2P: This is the same price as the OM2P-HS ($75) but only does 150mbps. On the plus side though, it has an EXTERNAL antenna. Everything I read indicated this one was good for using outdoors in an enclosure.OM2P-LC: This is the less expensive option. Looks the exact same as the OM2P-HS, has 2 BUILT IN antennas, but has slower speeds (150mbps) for $55.I love the cloud based management. You set up a (free) account with cloudtrax and configure your network name, security, key, etc. The breadth of features offered on CloudTrax can be a bit daunting. For example, you can:- You can have a splash page when users connect to your network like at a hotel, business or coffee shop.- You can use a built in "voucher" system where you can create codes that provide wifi access for a certain period of time- You can set up the network to accept paypal payment for access.- You can but bandwidth limits on users- And lots more!In my case, I was just using this system for my home, so I disabled all the bells and whistles. I also had to disable the wireless and broadcasting SSID on my old modem/router. I'm fairly technical, and I'd say installation was really easy. That said, this isn't something "Grandma who wants to use the Google" can setup on their own.Initially I bought just one of these based on another review that the wireless strength was better than a typical wireless router. I found that NOT to be the case. In my situation, the range for a single unit was equivalent to my old wireless router (Some "Pace" model from ATT Uverse). Once I saw that a single unit didn't give me the extended range I wanted, I ordered two more and added them in strategic locations. Here is where this system really shines. You literally login to cloudtrax, click "Add Node" Double Click on a Google Map to show a rough location of where you are putting it, give it a name ("Living Room"), type in the MAC address that is printed on the box and you are done. When you plug in the access points, it finds the other devices on your network, gets to the internet and pulls in a configuration automagically. If an access point crashes, it automatically tries to reboot itself and emails you a crash alert. I now have wifi that extends a good 80' in any direction from my house with just these 3 access points, and it just works. I LOVE these things! What's in the package:The access point itselfA power supply to plug into a standard US outlet with about a 4' cord.NO Instructions (Plenty of documentation on their website though)NO ethernet cable

This is NOT the same as the 2014 version released by OpenMesh
This particular model will not support 802.3af. I ordered three and had to return them since I need 802.3af as indicated here: http://www.open-mesh.com/products/om2p-hs.html

Easy peasy
Easy to set up and use. Not as fast as rated, but it works well enough to not matter. So...

Disappointed -- Router Did NOT Extend Coverage
Based on all of the reviews here, I thought this would be perfect -- we have a four story townhouse and I have our primary router set up in the basement. I figured I would add this device up on the top floor (where our signal, rather obviously, was weakest). I've had this sucker for close to a year now and I have to say that it added virtually no better wifi coverage than our wireless router in the basement. Often, even from the top floor, we get a better signal from the basement router than we do from this router on top floor just down the hallway. I am looking for a replacement now. I'm extremely disappointed with this purchase and I would not recommend it to anyone.

Five Freaking Stars!!!
My wireless journey in the new house has had its ups and downs. Downstairs wireless coverage was excellent, upstairs in the large master bedroom has been dismal. I tried three different wireless extenders from no-name cheap brands and none of them worked correctly. One would have great coverage but would lose the connection after a few minutes. The other would be more reliable but the coverage would be just a little bit better. Then I heard about Open Mesh on an online community for IT professionals and it looked like a god send. Enterprise-level technology at a consumer-level price. So I gave it a shot. My plan was to buy one first to see how good the coverage was and then buy a second if the signal was weak in the bedroom. I fully expected to order a second one a couple days later.I was wrong. Let me first state that this thing is small. It shipped with two boxes one with the power adapter and one with the unit itself. I was hard pressed to guess which one was in what box. It's just that small. But don't let the size fool you. This sucker packs a punch. On my 25 Mbps Comcast connection, I routinely got 1-3 Mbps in the master bedroom upstairs on the old Linksys Router repeated to a cheap Chinese AP. With this, I get 90-95% of the bandwidth with no need for a repeater or to create a mesh with a second unit. So far it's been rock solid. No drops and no glitches. With Cloudtrax, I set this unit up a month in advance. So when it came via Amazon, it took me less than 5 minutes to get everything up and running. I just logged in to Cloudtrax and added the MAC address of the unit and everything was live. I have a professional looking guest portal for free Wifi for house guests and neighbors. This thing is the real deal. Don't waste your money on the cheap brands, get something that works.Just turn off the wifi on your old AP and plug this thing in and you're good to go. This thing isn't a router so any old router you have lying around will do. All you need it for is for this little wonder to get to the Internet and you're off to the races.
