DEWALT DCST990X1 40V String Trimmer 7.5AH

When it arrived, I thought, "What did I get myself into?" Box was huge, and it made me wonder if I should have heeded others' warnings about the trimmer being large. Well, turns out it's just about convenient for me, despite being barely 5'9". Even better, I found it was not at all difficult to retrofit the Tanaka 32308 "No Brainer" head. You have to remove the included aluminum shaft (whose top is normal threaded and bottom is reverse) and the Takaka kit contains an adapter that will fit.Power is definitely more than I had expected, especially with .133 line. So much so, in fact, I accidentally broke the window pane of my my sliding glass door when the trimmer chipped off a piece of stone from my landscaping. Glad I had wore my backup shooting range goggles! Definitely should have come with a larger guard, but I have learned to just make sure I trim parallel to any window/vehichle/whatever that I don't want to be pelted with debris.Hopefully the battery will last a good while. But despite the headache I gave myself with the broken window, I can't wait to tear up some weeds next time out.

I have concerns about long-term support for 40V, but it's a good tool. Getting the spool off was more difficult than it's supposed to be. I let a string get real short, and it slipped inside the cutter head. Won't make that mistake again, but not looking forward to changing line. WD40 in the right place might have helped.The 6Ah and 7.5Ah batteries are great. 4Ah gives me less than half the run time of either.

Almost as good as my gas Stihl trimmer. I’ll use this for 90% or more of my 3 acre yard (too hilly and steep for a brush mower or pull behind). Amazing battery life on low and I only need high for the super thick and tall grass or the berries (more shrub than weeds). Love how quiet it is and how easy it is to maneuver. Wish it had a shoulder strap but will likely repurpose the one off my Stihl now that I will use it so infrequently.

Very impressed with the power it's a beast but I didnt realize the battery is like no other dewalt batteries they rare not compatible not even with the flex 60volt

Love the weedeater but desperately looking for a quickfeed universal trimmer head. Another review mentioned the Tanaka head which I did purchase. That head is not compatible with my weedeater. I had the local dewalt dealer look at it also. Maybe the design has changed. An old dewalt part number of DWO1DT995 was given to me as a quickfeed head, however dewalt is no longer making that.

Owned 3 trimmers on my lifetime, this is by far the best one.Best features: Long battery life, 2 line spool instead of 1, low vs hi speed, cut a path of long grass/weeds like a hot knife thru butter.Only things that would make it even better: Ability to adjust the length of the trimmer and the ability for the head to turn to use as an edger

Works well. My husband would like to try with heavier line to make it more effective. It is way to heavy for my arms. Heavy for him.

I whacked my whole property; 3 buildings, inside and outside of 2 large fences, edged the driveway, on a full charge. 1/2 hour straight, and it showed no sign of slowing down. It's a champ even through some heavy weeds. And to not have to worry about gas mixtures and clogged carburators; I'm happy.
