The Only Support I've Used In Over Six Years
My joints move further than they're supposed to, or is normal - thank you, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (!). Elastoplast have played a blinder, with this easy-to-fit & adjust, comfortable-to-wear & very effective wrist support. I do indeed, use it every day. Tendinitis, has my hyper-mobile/ unstable wrist, causing me a lot more pain without this support - the more I do with it, the more I hurt. I have used this support for more than six years & I most dearly hope, that they won't ever discontinue it - because, having tried a multitude of vastly inferior ones (including ridiculously-expensive & the pain-inducing over-the-thumb ones), I've found that this is the best. It's great for everything, from typing & writing, to lifting boxes & driving. It's especially useful when cutting things - anything from a steak, to a bedraggled cardboard box for recycling. All I'd wanted, for this wrist, is stability without more pain - in this support, that's exactly what I've got.I much prefer the beige colour of this, to the black ones you can get, as the beige is less obvious on my medium-tone skin. I think it would be nice if they did a darker one, though, too - for people with brown skin. I know that Elastoplast already do deep-brown-tone plasters. I'm grateful for a reduction in price right now. But, if you look after it, it will look after you - thus, it will still be good value at full-price.I wash it in a laundry bag (that I bought from Amazon), on its own, for 15 minutes at 30 degrees, with no softener, just a very small dose of Persil Biological (green cap) Liquid. At low temperatures, this is the best one to use, to kill germs. Softener will accelerate the rate at which the elastic perishes, which in turn, will only decrease how effectively it supports. Despite its germ-killing power, I've found Persil Bio quite gentle, on the support itself & my wrist's skin. I use the lowest spin-speed - I feel that the full 1400 is too brutal for it; I believe the faster the spin, the more likely it will deteriorate. Because I use a slow spin, it does come out of the machine rather sodden & takes an age to dry fully in the Winter - I hang it up in the window that gets the most sun all-year-round - obviously, it dries much quicker in Summer, but I keep it out of the window when the sun is at its hottest. That's why I always have two of them, for when the other one is drying. I've learned from bitter experience, to never tumble dry this - the heat mangles the elastic & melts the Velcro fixings - so, of course, it would not be fit for purpose, after being treated so harshly.Naturally, over time, with wear & washing, it will deteriorate - the nature of the materials in this dictate, it will not last forever. Sometimes, not always when it's nearly worn-out, the odd bit of stitching will come loose. I've re-stitched them when that's happened - it has lengthened the life of each one. They're only thrown away, when they no longer support my wrist. I try not to get it dirty & always remove it when going to the loo. I never sleep with it on; the first & only time I did, I woke up unable to feel, or move my hand. It's not too uncomfortable in Summer, I sweat a LOT - if you don't, you will find it less so. I just take it off & put it in front of the fan, if it's too damp to be comfortable. Obviously, in the Winter, it keeps my wrist toasty-warm. The only down-side, is that sometimes, I catch a rough bit of Velcro on my clothes, or worse, my skin. If this happens, don't be tempted to trim it with scissors - it only makes it worse! I've sparingly-used super-glue, to bond a piece of soft fabric to the offending edge. Sparingly, because, the potential for super-glue to melt certain materials, was not far from my mind. I sometimes relish being presented with a problem, only because it forces you to get creative, to find a solution. Other times, I just scream at (or bang my head on) a wall! When considering that having to "fix" it, happens so infrequently, it's not really a problem, at all.
