Precalculus

I bought this textbook as a requirement for my college math class. My precalc classes are broken up into two separate classes (analysis and geometry), so it was convenient to only have to buy one book for both classes (I'm not so sure about other schools standards, but check to see if the same book is required for multiple classes to prevent from having to rent the book and then having to rent it again or buying it). The downside being, the information on book feels to be crammed and not thoroughly explained. Having completed both my classes I can say that I did find some errors in the book but nothing the professor can't correct. Overall, the book accomplishes it's goal of being very boring for the not-into-math people and being a regular ol' math book to everyone else. If you're buying this book as a student and the book is required, buy away i guess (and good luck). If you're looking to see if you want to assign this book as a professor or simply need a reference book, it would be wise if you look somewhere else.I'm giving this a 5 star rating because the book I received was pretty much in brand new condition even though I bought it used. Also, I successfully learned about math.

I use this book to help me sleep at night. Works like a charm. I'm getting the best rest I've ever had in my life. Oh, it's also pretty good for learning calculus and what not. Would not recommend it for those wanting to learn anything other than calculous. It's pretty limited in that respect. A must have for any insomniac wanting to freshen up on their mathematical know how.

While this textbook does teach you math, the poor word choice and inconsistency in mathematical convention and terminology makes it difficult to do so. Einstein once said, "that all physical theories, their mathematical expressions apart ought to lend themselves to so simple a description that even a child could understand them."

I can't even explain to you how badly I want to throw this book off a cliff. I have been a 'proud' owner of Cohen's 7th Edition of Pre-Calculus going on three weeks now. With that being said, this book has confused me more than it has ever helped. The examples are terribly written ( for example the book doesn't really explain any simple way of finding the solution to any problem). I would order the recommended Solutions Guide for the book, but being a poor college student already thousands of dollars in debt, I think it is ridiculous that there is even a solutions guide for a textbook that costs as much as it does. Do yourself a favor and boycott any class that uses this book. This book will confuse you even more than you were in the first place.

I had to return this for a refund (luckily you can do it) because it was frustrating to see errors on the sample problems. As if Maths wasn't hard enough as it is, the last thing you need is a mistake and trying to decipher where the mistake took place. I didn't even get to section 2 before I called it quits, it's that bad. It's as if the physical book was ran into an OCR software and they had a 5 year old check for any mistakes. This electronic version needs to be proofread because I bet the physical book does not contain the errors I've found in the first chapter.UPDATE:Originally gave this review a 2 star because I was very angry that day. I have high expectations after shelling out over $100 that I can never recoup because this is an electronic version. Giving it 4 stars, minus 1 star because of the mistake somewhere in section 1. If I recall, it was a sample problem about absolute values. It was missing a pipe character " | " <-- (that is a pipe) and as you follow how the example is solved, the pipe re-appears. There are other errors I found but I didn't bother taking notes or screenshot.

The ability to rent my child's college textbook was a Godsend to my budget!
