Making Hidden Tang Knives

title should have been: "Making the knife shown on the cover".
The title should have been: "Making the knife shown on the cover". This book is basically just a written description with pictures of the making of a single knife in a knife making workshop that the author apparently took. It only covers the one knife and the one style. I had expected a book that went into depth on the subject and explored at least a few of the many methods of making hidden tang handles. I also would not follow the methods outlined in the book. For instance it purports to teach a method that does not require much equipment, but the truth is the methods described require a strange mix of equipment. For instance, he drills all around the pattern and cuts with a hacksaw because he doesn't have a band saw, all the filing is by hand, no grinders of any kind... yet his design requires an arc welder. He welds screw stock to the tang so he can use a screw on bolster/pommel, which is, in my opinion, rather backward and nowhere near traditional. Not impressed.

Awesome book!
This is a very handy, helpful little book. The pictures are amazing, explanations are easy to follow. Some skill and prior knowledge of knives and knife-making would be helpful, but I believe a beginner would still be well on his way to making nice knives by following what was taught here.

Book review
I have all of the books in this series. Very informative and as usual, technically oriented. This will give makers who have not made a hidden tang knife the knowledge to do so

Absolute pants
This book (like the making leather sheaths volume 1) is the worst guide to making anything. Its impossible to follow and extremely unclear, even with pictures. There is a lot of, 'this bit needs to be done by professional, and this bit is very difficult so there is no pictures of explanation as I can't be bothered'.Absolute pants..
