Again, Dangerous Visions

Great stories. Rubbish quality control. Non-existent proof reading.
This will be the third copy of Again Dangerous Visions I have ever owned. I bought it because I am collecting all of the versions of Harlan Ellison's works, specifically the ones with the author's picture on the front from Open Road Media; there appear to be 31 in all. The stories here are superb but there's a big problem with the physical book itself. It looks like a print-on-demand book and, when I turned to the contents at the front to pick out a story to read first and then went to the appropriate page number - nothing - middle of the preceding story. All the page numbers are off by between 20 and 30 pages between the contents page and the actual story pages. In fifty years of reading books I've never experienced that before. Somebody (the publisher) needs to get their proof-reading sorted out. Mildly disappointed at this level of (non) quality.

A many layered collection of visions and reflections
Simply the best short story collection in the history of Science Fiction. Given the extraordinary hubris of Mr. Ellison, it's amazing that for once his swagger is warranted. At its core is a collection of better-than-average short stories by a bunch of the writers circa mid-60s. But what makes this collection is Harlan's foreward, and the authors' rebuttals of that in their own afterwords, and their reflections on their own writings. In this version Harlan adds another layer of reflection on the lives of the authors who have now passed away or otherwise faded from view. Entertaining as sci-fi and fascinating for anyone who aspires to writing.
