Monstercube Music Bomb Bluetooth Speakers

I bought the Monstercube Mini Portable Bluetooth Speaker with the intention of using it as a portable speaker in hotel rooms when travelling on business or on holiday. In particular, for listening to BBC iPlayer and music played via Bluetooth from my mobile phone. Hitherto, I’d used a Bose SoundLink, but its weight and bulk took a large bite out of my hand-luggage allowance on aircraft.My main requirements were:(1) Portability (lightweight and compact for hand luggage in aircraft) and(2) Pleasant sound quality.This speaker fully ticks both boxes.Although NOT comparable with my Bose in terms of audio quality, this Mini Portable Bluetooth Speaker performs very well for something that is about a quarter of the size and a twentieth of the price.MUSICAlthough lacking the richness and strength of the Bose across all audible frequencies, sound quality of the Monstercube is certainly acceptable – it is probably better suited to Classical, Folk or Jazz music than more bass-hungry varieties such as Pop, Country or Rock, etc. However, if playback is through iTunes (iOs) or DoubleTwist (Android), you could improve bass by adjusting equalisation on the phone or iPod to suit your tastes. I have not tested it via a Windows device but I expect the point about equalisation would apply to various Windows Media Players also.I believe that overall sound quality can be improved slightly by positioning the device near a wall and/or on a wooden surface. The barrel-shaped speaker points upwards towards the ceiling, so putting it on a middle shelf of a bookcase or on top of a wardrobe a foot or two from the ceiling seemed to produce a more pleasant sound. The rubber surround helps it to stay put on slightly inclined surfaces also.SPEECH reproduction (such as Radio 4) is excellent!PHONEI have not tested it as a hands-free device for making and receiving phone calls. However one needs to be aware that receiving a call when listening to music on the device automatically uses the speaker and built-in microphone. This aspect is controlled by the phone rather than the speaker, so one needs to familiarise oneself with the process for disconnecting the speaker when making calls (unless, of course, the intention is for everyone else in the room to participate in the call)POWERIt is worth noting that it does not come with a power adapter, but charges via an USB cable (supplied). The charging port is exactly the same as those on many mobile phones (Micro-USB ), so if you carry a USB charger for your mobile phone and it has a micro-USB cable, you wouldn’t even need to carry an extra cable. It also charges from the USB port on a laptop computer. When it comes to portability as hand luggage, this beats the Bose SoundLink, which is heavier, bulkier and in need of a separate charger.Due to its small size, don’t expect much more than about 3-4 hours of battery life. However, it plays while charging, so this should not be a problem in most situations.BLUETOOTHUnlike WiFi, Bluetooth has much lower bandwidth and shorter range. The link can also be disrupted by electronic “noise”. Bluetooth works best when the communicating devices are very close to each other. This little speaker with its little batteries is at the weaker end of the spectrum and the odd drop-out is to be expected if you (and/or the phone) move about the room.In summary, an excellent understudy to the Bose as a travelling companion.

Used it once or twice in the shower and then the sound started to become distorted and the Bluetooth disconnected randomly and wouldn't re connect

The flap that covers the charging hole and headphone jack doesn't stay shut - so if you dropped it in water, or tried to shower with it you'd be in trouble.However, for damp conditions like rain, etc it would still be fine (and I guess I'd just duct-tape it shut anyway, being a practical guy).That being said, the sound quality and volume are astonishingly impressive, it feels - well - substantial to say the least.My phone's Bluetooth has about a 15-20 foot range, but my wife's tablet Bluetooth works through walls, 30 feet away etc.For the price, the size, and considering the sheer unadulterated toughness and build quality - an altogether fabbo piece of kit.If you don't care that the flap comes open easily rendering the waterproof to water-resistant unless you use a bit of good gaffa tape - top notch gear.

We purchased this in orange not that it should make any difference. The product was diabolical, very poor sound quality and could not connect to my I-phone unless they were sitting next to each other. In desperation I used the wired connection - that failed as well. A waste of money and I don't know how its received positive reviews. Do not buy.

I don't usually write reviews, and this may be one of my first. After looking through all of the reviews for the various portable speakers, I thought I'd take a chance on this one. I was after something that wasn't too cumbersome, but loud enough to be heard for a few friends when watching something on the iPad. Upon its arrival, it certainly seems sturdy enough and took a few seconds to hook up via Bluetooth. Certainly loud enough for what I need and no issues with the sound quality either. Considering it cost £15.99, I am seriously impressed and will end up buying a few more for work and various other places. My only issue is with the included 3.5mm cable to connect it to the headphone port. When connected, it isn't the best quality cable and there is a bit of feedback, which is non-existent when connected via Bluetooth.

Didn't work, tried with phone, ipad and laptop, nothing worked with this unfortunately. Not sure if due to this item in general or if it's just an error with just this specific item.

What a great little gadget. Easy to pair, very well made and really good sound. It's so portable too, you can carry it or hook it to almost anything. I liked it so much I had to buy another one!*Update* Since receiving the green one there are a couple of points to note. My Amazon Fire will only recognise one of them, whereas my Galaxy phone sees both and I have them renamed accordingly.There also seems to be a slight difference in button function depending on which Bomb/device I'm using. The -/+ buttons are for volume control with short press and <l / l> with long press. The green model appears to reverse this with my phone. It also has a blue rather than red function light. Not really an issue, but you may think it's faulty if you read the instructions._UPDATE_ I'm going to downgrade this with specific reference to the orange speaker. It's started clipping and repeatedly advising that charging is required after less than 60 minutes use. Have returned for a replacement.

Good bass and volume in such a small package, weighty which suggests good build and soft touch rubber give a good feel and handling when wet.

Consiglio comunque l' acquisto perché ha una buona riproduzione, buoni i bassi e un bel volume nonostante le dimensioni. Sconsigliato per rispondere alle chiamate. Rimane la sensazione di fregatura dovuto al fatto che viene venduto come un 5W quando anche nel libretto delle istruzioni c'è scritto 3W.

arrivato oggi, l'ho subito messo in funzione per vedere cosa aveva da offrire.innanzitutto arriva gia carico, non so di quanto ma sicuramente almeno metà batteria perchè l'ho fatto suonare per un bel po, il volume è bello forte e non fa rimpiangere casse tradizionali, ha anche dei bassi decenti per un altoparlante di quelle dimensioni! a volume massimo non distorce i suoni e questo è sicuramente un punto a favore!l'accoppiamento bluetooth col cellulare è immediato, le istruzioni di cui viene corredato (che tralaltro sono per un altro modello di altoparlante ma tant'è...) sono semplici ed efficaci, ma comunque tutto sommato inutili perchè l'altoparlante è veramente intuitivo e facile da usare, i comandi sono quelli classici (pulsante di chiamata per pausa/play, i tasti -/+ per alzare e abbassare il volume o cambiare brano se tenuti premuti a lungo. la versione bluetooth è 2.1 e purtroppo questo si fa sentire (in tutti i sensi). non so quanto influirà sulla durata della batteria ma sicuramente consuma di piu del 4.x ma per l'utilizzo che dovrò farne (sotto la doccia) non sarà un gran problema. il vero problema è che la portata del bluetooth 2.1 è molto piu bassa di quella dichiarata. indoor gia da una stanza all'altra fatica a tenere il segnale, inoltre se qualcuno o qualcosa passa in mezzo ai due apparecchi in linea d'aria si sente l'altoparlante "laggare", idem se muoviamo uno dei due apparecchi, anche entro i 5 metri. casa mia è in legno e muratura, nessun muro piu spesso di 10 cm e nessun ingabbiamento di ferro che potesse dare fastidio al segnale, eppure in linea d'aria ho difficoltà a posizionare il cellulare oltre i 5 metri da camera mia al bagno, da questo punto di vista mi aspettavo qualcosa in piu insomma; se il cellulare lo tengo vicino al pc e metto l'altoparlante nella doccia, non tiene il collegamento (6 metri in linea d'aria, nessun ostacolo a parte la parete che separa la doccia dalla stanza), ed è sicuramente un limite del bluetooth integrato perchè con quello dell'autoradio riesco a tenere il collegamento anche a 20 metri di distanza, col cellulare in casa. per fortuna ho trovato una combinazione favorevole di posizioni dei due apparecchi quindi riuscirò a usarlo, altrimenti mi sarei ritrovato un acquisto sprecato... quindi se avete intenzione di usarlo sotto la doccia in streaming dal cellulare, considerate questi fattori oppure preparatevi a dover tenere il cellulare in bagno mentre vi lavate, con tutti i rischi che l'umidità del momento comporta...!la confezione che mi è pervenuta è ben fatta e solida, e contiene: l'altoparlante, un moschettone per agganciarlo dove si preferisce, un cavo aux in, il cavo di ricarica usb/microusb. avrei gradito anche un cordoncino, pure di pochi centimetri, cosi da poter agganciare il moschettone al bordo doccia (o al manubrio di una bici, piuttosto che altri luoghi). ma va bene cosi. l'altoparlante è bello sostanzioso. pesante e compatto, quindi non da l'impressione di rompersi facilmente. inoltre è interamente gommato quindi piacevole al tatto e sicuramente resistente agli urti: uniche note dolenti: i tasti sono veramente difficili da trovare "ad occhi chiusi" ma anche un po aperti, in quanto si confondono facilmente con la struttura a "granata" dell'apparecchio. quindi almeno i primi tempi sarà un dover guardare con attenzione per premere quello giusto! gli sportellini poi una volta aperti, sono un po ostici da richiudere bene (e attenzione a farlo come si deve o la protezione dagli spruzzi va a farsi benedire!) e la struttura gommata attrae polvere e sporco come una calamita, l'ho poggiato solo un istante su una poltrona e sembra che l'abbia buttato in mezzo ad un prato :Dinsomma, per quello che ho speso sono piu che contento, ma sono piccoli dettagli che è bene tenere presenti se non si vuole rimanere delusi (e sulla portata del bluetooth specialmente bisogna stare attenti!)

Bello ma non balla.Prodotto nel complesso discreto, sopratutto nel designer, peccato che benché faccia il suo dovere non sia abbastanza alla altezza.Il suono sará pure pulito, ma 3watt sono davvero pochi.L avevo comprato principalmente per usarlo come vivavoce bluetooth, ma il microfono fa veramente pena, durante una telefonata chi mi sente, sente poco e molto disturbato.Peccato perché stava perfetto nel portabichieri dell auto.Sconsigliato se dovete usarlo come vivavoce, per il resto va bene, ma ricdotevi che con 3watt il volume è basso
