This book is brilliant. Satie's writings are accurately translated
This book is brilliant. Satie's writings are accurately translated, and presented in meticulous accord with all the details from Satie's manuscripts (for example, the lack of capital letters on the introductory notes to Uspud). Both Satie's intriguing philosophical wanderings and absurd humouresques are expressed brilliantly. For fellow Satie lovers, I thoroughly and enthusiastically recommend this book!

Not for everyone meaningless and not for you - or is it?
It's important for 100-year-old hipster stuff to be confusing and Old. Well you got everything in one happy package here with Old Erik none of this makes any sense but nonetheless we need it to be. Kinda like just letting it wash over me and figuring if this guy was headed somewhere and maybe we got there and maybe we did not, I think he was pulling our leg.

An insight into the mind of Erik Satie
I was hoping to find more biographical facts, rather, you get this collection of Erik's writings, which gives you an idea of his utterly out of the ordinary personality. It needs to be mentioned that the translation into english will never capture the real esence of his writings. If you don't like to get out of your comfort zone with books, don't buy this one.

Read this review with care and the aplomb of an aardvark
Satie was such a unique figure it was great to find out more about his writings. Lots of humor and absurdist wit. I was hoping there might be a greater volume of longer written pieces and articles but the majority in the book are quite short. I found the Notes section at the back of the book to provide very interesting background and anecdotes. The book is not a fluid read as all the little pieces and ads he wrote give it a somewhat disjointed feel. It doesn’t really flow from one section to the next. However it truly accomplishes the purpose of giving greater insights into Satie’s art and literary life. A very worthwhile book. More so if you are a Satie fan.
