AMAZING 3D
I PURCHASED WALKING WITH DINOSAURS 3D , FOR MY GRANDSON TO WATCH, BECAUSE HE LOVES DINOSAURS, AND TO SEE WHAT THE 3D WAS LIKE COMPARED TO OTHER 3D MOVIES, BELIEVE YOU ME , YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED. THE MOVIE IS GREAT AND THE 3D IS AMAZING. I HAVE SEEN QUITE A FEW 3D MOVIES, AND HAVE NOT BEEN IMPRESSED. BUT THIS ONE IS REALLY GOOD. WOULD RECOMMEND TO ANYONE

Not what was expected.
Although this shares the same title as the BBC TV documentary series, sadly it isn't and therefore you might be disappointed so don't be mistaken by seeing 'BBC Earth Films' in the production titles. This is purely for kids to watch and enjoy as an animated movie with talking characters and storyline. The quality of the blu ray animation and video are good, and enjoyable to watch especially in 3D, but for me the voice over/acting really does detract from the movie. So instead I watched it in 'Cretaceous' mode which plays the movie without any character voiceovers (If anybody else is interested this can be selected in the extras menu). So to conclude, for the younger generation this will be enjoyable, but the 'Walking with Dinosaurs' title is misleading and even watching it in 'Cretaceous' mode sadly didn't really make up for it.WALKING WITH DINOSAURS 3D BD - DIGITAL H [Blu-ray]

Forget the theatrical release, watch the cretaceous cut
I watched this at the cinema and remember the crushing dissapointment when it was clear that imbecile studio execs had interfered with the production and had insisted on voice overs that were Both ludicrous and incredibly irritating. This was NOT a movie version of the excellent BBC series, it was a travesty of a production with no clear idea of what it wanted to be. How the BBC allowed their product and good name to be so horrendously sullied by this mess is anybody's guess. Somebody somewhere should hang their head in shame for all but destroying something really good. The Cretaceous cut is a much more enjoyable experience however and goes some way to remedying the original mess of a release. Gone are the irritating voices and what is left is a 90 minute walk with a herd of dinosaurs heading south for the winter told from the perspective of a single Pachyrhinosaurus called Patch. The 3d and animation is excellent and although there are a few pop songs and some somewhat out of place moments, this is much closer to the sort of movie I think many were expecting. For that reason it is well worth buying the 3d movie since this new cut is also in 2d for those who don't like 3D. This version would be even better if it was about half an hour longer.

Sometimes stunning 3D dinosaurs aren't enough
I held off on watching this one for a long time due to the negative buzz about it. The filmmakers or studio heads or whoever it was had a brainwave one day and said - let's take a classic beloved documentary franchise and turn it into a kids movie, complete with poop jokes and random pop songs. It's a pity, because there are some genuinely good moments scattered throughout. As others have mentioned, the "cretaceous cut" of the movie is the way to go, removing the strange Homeward Bound-style voiceover and present day scenes. It does make for some utterly bizarre moments though, as you're treated to weird cutaways without any dialogue or motivation, but it's better than suffering the "acting" in the theatrical version. Didn't last five minutes into that one.The saving grace (of the 3D version at least) is this film has some seriously impressive visuals at times. The experience sways back forth between fairly bland landscape shots to dramatically lit dinosaur combat sequences, that have impressive sense of scale and realism when viewed in 3D. You can tell there was a bit of research put in as well (probably due to the BBC still having a stake in things), with some rather fluffy raptors running around and species depicted that actually lived at the same time period together. The forest fire and Gorgosaurus attack scenes are some of the main highlights, really showing off the impressive animation and being quite transporting.Of course, to get to those bright spots, you have to sit through some of the strangest, dumbest scenes in any dinosaur media ever produced. Two horned dinosaurs making goo-goo eyes to the sounds of Barry White is when I just lost it and collapsed in laughter at the sheer ridiculousness. The plot is very formulaic, ripping off any animated dinosaur movie you can think of, with a pretty shameless lift from March of the Dinosaurs near the end. It's enjoyable enough at times, but damn is it silly.Children are probably more the target audience here, going by the poop jokes, and they'd probably get quite a kick out of it if they're pretty young. It's a bit like a less adult-friendly version of Disney's Dinosaur from 2000. Those 3D dinosaurs really are quite stunning, but the whole thing feels like a 65 million dollar missed opportunity.

A wonderful film
The Walking with dinosaurs 3D. It is a great film for both adults and children we loved the way that the film told you about each of the species of dinosaurs so that even children could learn about the dinosaurs.

My 6 year old found it stupid
I was not sure if this was a comedy the random voices for the dinosaurs talking but without and mouth movement was really odd and my 7 year old daughter found it childish.I was hoping for an educational film but Disney's dinosaur is far superior and I can`t think of anything to say about this other than it really was pathetic on every level

Speculation + computerized eye-candy--but I loved it!
It is absolutely amazing that paleontology and computer animation are so advanced that programs like this are possible. While watching it, I laughed a lot--in delight, surprise, and at the occasional howler. Howlers first: Like any other reptile, Postosuchus had eyes on the sides, not the front, of its head. So therefore it would not have swiveled its head like a monkey to peer this way and that, to see if the coast is clear. It already had about 100 degrees viewing angle on each side. Additionally, Iguanodon chicks would be highly unlikely to have tumbled and frolicked like puppies. There's only so much complex behavior you can cram into a brain the size of a golf ball, which has little in the way of frontal lobes to boot. Finally, I was disappointed that there was no segment on crested dinosaurs. It would have been interesting to hear all the different nasal honks those crests produced. Each episode contains one or two life and death scenarios for the beasties involved. The life cycles of the Diplodocus and the Ophthalmosaurus are especially well realized, if necessarily a bit fanciful. The computer animations are in most instances convincing, in particular the underwater scenes. Watching the gigantic Liopleurodon loom out of the depths is impressive. And there are plenty of toothy carnosaurs to thrill to. What's funny is how some parts of the program are produced in imitation of real nature documentaries. We soar alongside a pterosaur, like a cameraman in an ultralight filming migrating geese. Spotlights on the sea floor illuminate the Jurassic reef and its creatures. And, cutest of all, the night scenes of the Cynodont are rendered to look like infrared film footage, as if we were viewing a National Geographic film of a Serengeti watering hole at night. Agree or disagree with this program's reconstructions of dinosaurs' appearance and behavior, you'll watch every minute of it.
