A handy thing to have.
About a year ago I was traveling when I stopped at a street fair. Due to the amount of walking up and down hills on hard asphalt, my knees and hips--which are apparently older than my spirit of adventure--began to ache. Because of the crowds, there was no where to sit and I was forced to leave earlier than I wanted to. This little cane will make sure I'm not in that situation again. While it is slightly heavier than a plain cane, the easy-to-deploy seat makes up for that. It is a good height for me to use--I'm about 5'8" tall--and feels very solid and sturdy when in cane mode. By simply pushing up a small plastic guard that encircles the shaft of the cane, the tripod is released and allows the cane to become a seat. The way the tripod unfolds makes the cane a good height to sit on. Are you going to park yourself on this for a long stretch of time? No. The seat is fairly small but it feels sturdy and it does have the removable cushion, which can easily tuck in a jacket pocket or purse if you are not using the shoulder carry bag that comes with the cane. Although the seat is far from full sized, it is perfectly fine for sitting down for a rest, to watch a parade or a street show, or maybe even to grab a quick bite of something when there aren't any available tables. It certainly beats not being able to get off aching limbs or resorting to sitting on the ground, from which some of us have a hard time getting up once we're down! I've not had issues with the chair cane feeling unstable while in seat mode. The cane itself is sturdy enough to be used for walking, slides easily into the bag with a shoulder strap that comes with it, should the cane not be needed for walking, converts easily into seat mode and also comes with a quad tip for people that need extra stability while walking. I'm really glad to have this and looking forward to really putting it to the test when I visit that street festival again this year!
