I am Indebited to this Book
I am indebited to "Self Help for your Nerves" for the very major role it played in my recovery from depression back in the early 1990s. Only after I read it did I truly understand what was wrong with me and how I had gotten into such a state. When I put into practice the amazing, practical advice shared in this book, hope re-entered my life as I began making great leaps forward in my recovery. Here are some excerpts from my diary, dated 28th July 1990, written after reading the book:"This book goes on to...describe EVERY single thing I have been suffering from for the past eight months...I had no idea all of the strange things in my mind, body, and emotions, were ALL interlinked and caused by the same thing! And it even says how I've been sitting and wondering what happened to me, and wondering if I'll ever be the same again? The book explains everything, right down to obsessive thoughts..."And for the last 8 months, as always, I've reacted to these distressing symptoms in the same way. I have been scared of them, and feared all the many side effects and things that were going wrong with my mind, body, and emotions. And my other reaction has been to fight against it. And now I have learned from this book that these two reactions are the wrong reactions, because they both only make the symptoms worse worse..."This book has taught me how to react so that the [the fear-adrenalin-fear cycle] will be stopped. And it's teaching me how to react whenever it strikes again in the future."

Amazing Doctor, Great Book
I could hardly believe my eyes when reading parts of this book, as many of the symptoms Dr Weekes describes fit me almost exactly. I felt like I finally found someone that really understands what I’m going through. The skills that Dr Weekes teaches (facing, accepting, floating, letting time pass) have been very helpful for me. I’ve had a lot of experience with CBT (of which the techniques in this book share a lot with) but this really helped solidify many of the concepts. In addition, Dr Weekes instills confidence and makes you believe you can succeed. If you are unsure, you can find videos online of Dr Weekes being interviewed where she covers some of this material so you can see if it (and if she) resonates with you.The book has helped me and I’m in awe of how insightful and far ahead of her time Dr Weekes was. I feel this is timeless material.

Help For Panic and Anxiety Sufferers
Claire Weekes is absolutely wonderful with her books about how to handle panic, anxiety and social anxiety. She walks you through it and gives you tips to help yourself. It has helped me. It's also nice to know your not alone in the world when it comes to this disorder because you can certainly feel that way. Trauma, stress, it all adds up and then later it comes through as anxiety and panic. Not fun to experience because you don't know when or where a panic attack will happen, however, Weekes's books can help.

Not Bad
I have done a lot of reading in the self-help genre. This book looked great online, and it did have a few helpful hints here and there. Not as good as some other books along these lines that I have read.

I strongly recommend that you read this book
Anyone who suffers from panic attacks and anxiety, I strongly recommend that you read this book. I bought this book about 10 years ago, I bought one for my niece too. I read it from cover to cover again and again. Because it helped me so much. The author has such a great insight in understanding the sufferers problem that you think she must have suffered them herself to know what goes on in the sufferers mind. If you follow the advice and do as the book says it will help you through your anxiety.

A simple and gentle approach,
This is a useful book. It has helped me a lot in dealing with bouts of anxiety. I first found it in my local library, then bought my own copy. I get it out and read a bit if the bad feelings return . I like it a lot more than Eckhart Tolle's The Power of Now. My counsellor suggested that I read Tolle, but I disliked his approach. Claire Weekes, a British author, has written other great books to help people.
